A core value of the IAIM program is respecting the child as an individual. Parents are taught to always ask permission before beginning massage, even with very young infants. This simple yet powerful gesture communicates that the child’s needs and boundaries matter.
Respect is ageless: even newborns signal their preferences through body language and vocal cues, and parents learn to adapt the massage accordingly.
Asking permission becomes an act of mutual respect that fosters self-awareness and consideration for others as the child grows. Across cultures, touch is universal, but the way it is offered makes all the difference. IAIM teaches that love is expressed also through waiting and respecting.
