What is ‘Total Triage?’
‘Total Triage’ means that all appointment requests are assessed by a GP and categorised according to need. We’re introducing a total triage system from November.
Clinically triaging all requests will make it easier to book appointments and provide fair access to services based on need instead of being ‘first in the queue’.
This means:
✅ No ‘8am rush’
✅ Reduced waiting times on the phone
✅ More convenient ways and times to contact us
✅ Book routine appointments in advance
✅ Receive the right care at the right time
This system should make it easier to access same day appointments for those who really need to be seen urgently, and help you plan routine appointments at times that are more convenient for you.
We’re improving how you book appointments
In November, all appointment requests will go through Total Triage.
This means our clinical team will review your request and decide whether you need:
• An appointment (in person / phone / video) and how quickly
• Advice from another professional (e.g., pharmacist, nurse)
• Self-care information or a referral
