🌿 When life feels overwhelming, disconnected, or stuck indoors… it can be hard to find the calm, focus, and confidence you need to move forward.

At Oak Therapies, we believe healing and growth happen best when people can reconnect, with nature, with animals, and with themselves.

This past week has been a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. With the first hints of spring appearing between the mixed weather, our sensory garden is really starting to come to life 🌱. Our community members have been busy outdoors helping with hedge laying, spending peaceful time with the herd, and enjoying some wonderfully chilled sessions in the fresh air.

There have been some brilliant moments too:
✨ Our dry hedge-laying crew proudly finished their mini project.
✨ Community members helped care for the herd, with some of the animals very closely supervising!
✨ Our two boy pigs were absolutely delighted with their fresh straw bedding and happily tucked themselves in.
✨ A duck has quietly made a nest by the pond, perfectly camouflaged, we’re very excited to hopefully see ducklings soon.
✨ One of our community members completed a fantastic plane model in our life-skills workshop.

Through equine-assisted therapy, eco-sensory interventions, and creative workshops, we create safe, supportive spaces where people can slow down, build skills, and reconnect with the world around them.

And the outcome?
🌿 Greater confidence
🌿 Calm and emotional regulation
🌿 Practical life skills
🌿 Meaningful connection with nature, animals, and community

Are you or your child feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or struggling to find calm in the chaos of everyday life? 🌱 When emotions feel muddy and heavy, much like a field of muddy ponies after winter, it can be hard to see the sunshine ahead.

At Oak Therapies, we offer a space where healing happens naturally. From hands-on gardening in our sensory garden to connecting with our wonderful animals, every activity is designed to nurture regulation, confidence, and wellbeing.

This week has been a beautiful reminder of growth and renewal. From muddy ponies to brighter skies, we’ve been embracing the changing season. 🌤️

✨ Power Tool Pam has been hard at work.
✨ Jo has been clearing winter’s litter from beds and hedges.
✨ Dead bushes and branches have been removed, making space for new life.
✨ Spring bulbs are beginning to burst through in the sensory garden.
✨ And our amazing volunteer Tolly has been busy hand-crocheting bottle carriers and phone cases - the team have already put their orders in!

Even on the cloudier days, there’s been brightness here - in teamwork, in tending the land, in caring for the animals, and in watching the garden slowly come back to life.

That’s what Oak Therapies is all about. 🌿
Creating a safe, nurturing environment where children and adults can:
• Reconnect with nature
• Build emotional resilience
• Develop confidence and practical skills
• Experience calm through meaningful, hands-on activity

The outcome?
Lighter days. A sense of achievement. Growing self-belief. And just like our garden, the gentle return of colour, life, and hope.

If you or your child could benefit from a supportive outdoor therapeutic space, we’re here - in all weather, through muddy moments and sunshine alike. 🌞

💛 Valentine’s Week at Oak Therapies 💛

This week we’ve been celebrating love in all its forms, not just romantic love, but the care, friendship and support we share within our community every single day. That’s what we’re about all year round at Oak Therapies.

With the rainy weather, we’ve been baking in the shed, cakes, scones and lots of biscuit decorating (with a little sing-song in the middle! 🎶). One community member even tried the biscuits he made - a huge achievement as he’s usually unsure about new foods - and proudly took them home to share. His mum was so pleased, and so were we.

Stan the dog kept a very close eye on proceedings (mainly for crumbs 🐾), and we were delighted to welcome Bailey, the newest addition to the herd, who’s already making friends!

Baking and hands-on activities do so much more than create tasty treats. They build confidence, support emotional expression, develop life skills and help with sensory regulation through textures, smells and tastes. This week, many also created handmade gifts, embracing the joy of giving and the shared happiness that comes from acts of kindness.

Valentine’s reminds us that love is found in friendship, community and the everyday moments of support. ❤️

🌞 What a difference a little sunshine makes at Oak Therapies 🌿

This week reminded us just how powerful it is to get outside, even when the weather can’t quite make up its mind. We were lucky to soak up a few brighter days and enjoy some much-needed vitamin D before the rain and cold returned.

We kicked things off with movement and connection, using weights to imagine ourselves as tall, strong trees 🌳, squatting low and jumping like frogs 🐸, and sharing plenty of laughs with our community members. We then slowed things down outdoors, noticing busy birds, tiny plants popping their heads up, and taking a mindful moment to appreciate everything growing around us.

Creativity and purpose continued in the shed, where we got busy helping to build a table… complete with a secret drawer 👀. Activities like these support confidence, teamwork, problem-solving, and a real sense of achievement - benefits we see shining through our community members every week.

✨ Power Tool Pam has also been hard at work, developing her magical powers under the conifer, proof that imagination, play, and nature make a pretty powerful combination.

Even though February has arrived, the elements were still wet and chilly, so we hunkered down indoors and baked some delicious cheese scones 🧀🥖. Baking and making our own food can be deeply therapeutic, the warm smells, rhythmic movements, and hands-on experience help soothe the nervous system, support regulation, and create feelings of calm, comfort, control, and accomplishment.

At Oak Therapies, we support community members of all ages and abilities, offering meaningful, sensory-rich experiences that nurture both mind and body.

If you’re interested yourself or know someone who may benefit from the therapies we offer, you’re warmly invited to contact us via our website inquiry form. You can arrange a free, non-committal 30-minute consultation, simply to talk things through and explore how we may be able to help: https://www.oaktherapies.co.uk/

🌧️ A Rainy January at Oak Therapies 🌧️

January has been all about slowing down, taking it easy, and leaning into the quieter moments. With the rain pouring down this week, most of our time was spent hunkered down in the hut — staying dry, cosy, and connected.

We treated the animals (and ourselves!) to some homemade flapjack, lovingly made in the hut with our community members. There was plenty of laughter, warmth, and a lot of hot chocolate involved ☕🍫

Out came the Scrabble too, and yes, we absolutely made up our own rules. Google was our best friend, the competition was fierce, and the herd… well, they were less than impressed with our Scrabble skills 🐴😅

Games like Scrabble aren’t just fun, they’re a brilliant therapeutic tool. They encourage communication, problem-solving, confidence, and connection, all while creating a relaxed and supportive environment. Even on cold, wet, miserable days, those shared moments really matter.

Rain or shine, the herd reminds us that we’re always connected. We’re still here, still open, and still offering our services to our community members throughout winter ❄️💚

🌧️❄️ More wintry days at Oak Therapies… and that hasn’t stopped us one bit.

Even through the cold, wet and rainy weather, our Therapeutic Centre is always open, and we’re always here delivering our services to our community. In fact, during these greyer months, our support is often needed more than ever.

This week, our community members have been embracing a beautiful mix of creative, outdoor and eco-sensory therapies. We’ve spent time in the huts exploring clay therapy, creating self-portraits and gently connecting with identity, self-awareness and self-expression. These creative moments offer a safe way to process emotions, build confidence and explore inner experiences that can sometimes be hard to put into words.

We’ve also enjoyed peaceful walks through the lanes with our herd members, connecting deeply with nature and spending special time with our beautiful pony, Beau🐴. Outdoor and eco-sensory therapies are hugely popular here at Oak Therapies – helping to reduce anxiety, ease low mood, support emotional regulation, and foster a sense of calm, grounding and connection.

Many people come to us experiencing stress, overwhelm, low confidence, anxiety, emotional blocks or disconnection – and our outdoor, creative and sensory-based approaches support wellbeing in a gentle, holistic and empowering way.

If you’re interested in any of our services, please feel free to drop us a quick enquiry form via our website. We’re happy to arrange a free 30-minute consultation to explore what support might be right for you.

🌧️ Rain or shine at Oak Therapies 🌿

It’s been a rainy start to the week, with muddy puddles, soggy ground, and a few very wet animals, but that certainly hasn’t dampened spirits here at Oak Therapies! Our community members have had a fantastic time, and we’re pleased to say our therapeutic services remain open and welcoming to everyone, whatever the weather.

This week has been full of creative therapies, with lots of clay therapy taking place in the hut. Our community members have been working on family portraits and self-portrait projects, exploring their creativity in a calm and supportive space. Clay therapy offers rich sensory and tactile experiences, helping to reduce cognitive pressure while encouraging natural, free-flowing conversation and emotional expression.

Out with the herd, our community members have loved continuing their sensory circuits, socialising with the animals, and building confidence around them. For some, this has been a real challenge, but we’re delighted to share a huge breakthrough this week. One of our community members confidently fed treats to Beau and Flicka independently and calmly. This moment was a long time coming and marked a truly significant achievement, which we celebrated (of course!) with a big hot chocolate topped with plenty of marshmallows ☕✨

🌱 A big thank you 🌱
We’d also like to give a heartfelt shout-out to Longacres Bybrook Barn Garden Centre, Ashford, for their generous donation of flower seeds. We’re incredibly grateful and can’t wait to sow them as our sensory garden continues to grow and come together.

✨ Happy New Year from all of us at Oak Therapies! ✨
We hope everyone had a restful and joyful Christmas and New Year. We’re excited to be back and looking ahead to all that 2026 has in store 🌱

The first week back has been a lovely mix of fresh air, creativity, and connection. Our community members have eased back in with some woodwork projects, enjoying the bright, crisp sunshine (even if it has been freezing ❄️!). These calm, purposeful activities are a great way to rebuild routine, confidence, and focus after the festive break.

On those clear winter days, we’ve also been spending time planning exciting new developments for our sensory garden. There are lots of ideas growing, along with new volunteering opportunities and partnerships on the horizon, so stay tuned for more updates!

And yes… the two cheeky boys 🐐 have been busy with some grooming sessions. Grooming plays an important therapeutic role: it supports emotional regulation, builds trust, encourages responsibility, and offers a calming, mindful experience through gentle touch and routine. It’s amazing to see the confidence and connection that can grow from these moments.

🌿 At Oak Therapies, we offer a space to slow down, reconnect, and feel supported.
And as we are into our last week of sessions before Christmas, we’ve been reflecting on just how special this week has been at the Therapeutic Centre.

Despite the grey, cold, and wet weather, there has been so much creativity and connection happening here. Our community members have been:

🎨 Finishing off beautifully painted pots to give as Christmas gifts
🌱 Planting cuttings from our sensory garden, nurturing them to grow into future plants, connecting deeply with both art and nature
🎄 Creating festive Christmas decorations using natural wooden log circles to hang on their trees
🌾 Continuing field maintenance, which plays a powerful role in regulation, grounding, and emotional wellbeing

These activities aren’t just creative or practical - they’re therapeutic. Working with nature, using our hands, and moving our bodies helps support regulation, reduce stress, and foster a sense of accomplishment and belonging. It’s been a truly wonderful week, full of warmth and connection, even as the weather turns cold.

💚 If you or someone you support is looking for a safe, nurturing space to grow, regulate, and reconnect, Oak Therapies may be the right fit.
