🍊 Winter’s Bright Boost!
Citrus Fruits (Oranges, Clementines, Blood Oranges, Lemons & Limes) 🍋
As a dietitian, I often recommend citrus fruits in the winter months. Not only are they bright and refreshing, but they’re also packed with nutrients that support your health when you need it most.
✨ Why I recommend citrus fruits:
🛡️ High in vitamin C – supporting your immune system during cold and flu season.
❤️ Rich in flavonoids (plant compounds) that may support heart and blood vessel health.
🌱 Provide fibre when eaten whole, helping to keep digestion regular.
💧 Naturally hydrating, as they have a high water content.
👉 Simple ways to enjoy citrus fruits:
• Snack on clementines or satsumas – easy to carry and peel.
• Add orange or grapefruit segments to salads.
• Squeeze lemon or lime into warm water, tea, or over vegetables.
• Try blood oranges for a seasonal twist – their colour comes from powerful antioxidants.
⚠️ Tip from me: choose whole citrus fruits where possible, rather than juice, to get the fibre and avoid excess sugar.
💡 Citrus fruits are a refreshing, seasonal way to brighten up your winter plate and keep your immune system strong.
