It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of former Kettering Town goalkeeper Gordon Livsey.
Gordon was a much-loved member of the Poppies family, making 315 appearances for the club between 1964 and 1977 and keeping 91 clean sheets,
a record that still stands to this day.
He also enjoyed a distinguished career with Wrexham, Chester, Hartlepool, Leamington, Nuneaton, and Scarborough.
Renowned for his powerful kicking, Gordon’s ability to launch a goal kick deep into the opposition penalty area was legendary. Former teammate and number nine Jim Conde fondly recalled how Gordon would deliver the ball straight into the box, creating scoring opportunities time and again.
Off the pitch, Gordon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and was known among teammates for his sharp wit and sense of humour. When receiving the Kettering Town Player of the Year award for the second consecutive year in 1974, he famously remarked:
“I must thank the rest of the defence because they’ve helped me to win it—and I must thank the forward line because they’ve been so bad that I had a lot to do.”
Gordon was also one of the original “Dougan boys” and proudly wore his replica Kettering Tyres shirt at the anniversary event in January, how fitting
that we will be holding a minute’s applause ahead of our fixture against Halesowen on Saturday 18th April, in the presence of his family and former teammates.
Gordon will be greatly missed by all at Kettering Town, and we thank him for his outstanding service to the club.
