An individual’s mental health is experienced in the present but is influenced by the past, and informs future behaviour.

Analytical Hypnotherapy views the symptoms as an outward expression of past behaviour. The symptoms are what is happening in the present, but are reflections of past experiences and the effect they had on the individual.

When we approach understanding mental health in this way, we accept that symptoms are not the root cause of the problem. They are a response to difficulties that mirror their experience.

Social anxiety (sometimes called social phobia) is best described as a fear of being judged.

The person feels self-conscious and unable to shake off the idea that others are making an assessment of them.

Like all anxieties, it is irrational so the thoughts are irrational too

Hypnoanalysis combines Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy helping to process life events.

Using Hypnosis makes it easier to remember events and unhelpful interpretations made at the time and the emotions they created.

Rather than focusing on simply managing symptoms, the therapy aims to resolve the underlying root cause of the problem.

“I know what happened and yet I still can’t get past it!”

This one comment describes the purpose of analytical therapy and why it's important to address the emotional impact of trauma.

It is not enough to understand that something upsetting happened, we have to fully understand how it felt at the time and why we interpreted events in that way.

Hypnoanalysis helps a person feel and think through the emotions past events created. The cathartic effect gives us a full understanding and free’s us from the emotional ties carried forward into present-day events.

What’s the difference between stress and anxiety?

Stress is a response to external pressures. We feel agitated and unhappy and can attribute it to external factors: work, relationships and financial issues.

We know they cause stress (rather than anxiety) because when our external circumstances change, the stress symptoms also change.

Anxiety creates the same type of symptoms, but the stress comes from within a person’s mind. They feel the same nervousness, frustration and agitation, but it remains even when the external circumstances change.

It is something inside themselves but outside their own control.

Stress and anxiety impact each other. The greater our external stresses, the more we will be troubled by our inner anxieties.

Unprocessed emotional experiences find an outlet through anxiety symptoms, for example, phobias, panic attacks, and generalised.

Hypnoanalysis is a type of Hypnotherapy that deals with the cause of emotional and psychological problems rather than simply treating the symptoms

Sometimes people wonder why or how talking helps people with their anxieties.

Talking helps us makes sense of events and what they meant to us at the time. As a consequence, any long-term effects can be resolved.

A type of Hypnotherapy that deals with the cause of anxiety and emotional problems rather than simply managing the symptoms.

I think many people have a vague idea that the Hypnosis part of the therapy will be all-important and that they will somehow be induced into a trance like state where it will be put into their mind that they will…be free from anxiety…no longer be depressed…no longer be afraid of enclosed spaces…

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

Far from putting something in your mind, in fact, something is released from your mind, the subconscious something which had been at the root cause of the problem.

Anxiety is changes all the time...

Anxiety evolves as time goes by. Something that made you anxious a year ago, maybe less of a problem today. Perhaps you faced that fear or phobia and noticed how it reduced in intensity (or disappeared), only for it to be replaced with another phobia, fear or worry.

Anxiety symptoms are outward expressions of an unconscious pressure, so if that outward expression is prevented, the mind produces another one to replace it.

Wouldn’t it make sense for your mind to produce a symptom that is more difficult to overcome this time?

Remove the unconscious pressure (anxiety) and there is no need for your mind to substitute the symptom.

Something inside themselves but outside their control

They are behaving in a way they would rather not, but feel powerless to change it. Alternatively, they are not behaving in a way they would like, but feel equally powerless to change it.

Hypnoanalysis works under the principal of cause and effect. For every effect (symptom) there has to be a cause. There must be an unconscious cause for those symptoms.

The role of Hypnoanalysis is too uncover and, by doing so, remove the unconscious causes of problems.

Psychologists often refer to something call self-efficacy. A quiet confidence in your own abilities.

Rather than the brash, loud behaviour we may associate with confidence, it is the opposite. It is that feeling of ‘I know I can achieve this, I know it can be challenging and I may need help, but I know I can and will do it’.

We might think of it as relaxed confidence. The kind of belief in yourself that does not require a person to prove their abilities, but rather a self-esteem that allows a person to get on with life enjoying and dealing with the ups and downs it throws at us.

Our self-esteem is largely established as we were growing up. The experiences we had as we made our way from early infancy
to adulthood helped us form a blueprint of how to deal with similar events in the future.

Hypnoanalysis is an analytical form of Hypnotherapy, which rather than treating and controlling the symptoms (the confidence/self-esteem issue) it aims to resolve the root cause of the behaviour.

Psychologists sometimes refer to an accumulation and amplification effect. The everyday hassles and stresses accumulate overtime. Individually they are unlikely to cause you problems, but they build-up.

The accumulated effect is far greater than you might expect, and creates a vulnerability to other stresses.

We begin accumulating emotional stress from the early stages of our development, and as they accumulate they become anxieties and emotional problems.

Analytical Hypnotherapy helps a person resolve the build up of those accumulated stresses which lead to a person feeling anxious, or struggle with a negative mindset.

If we remove the emotional causes of problems, the pressure is relieved and so too can their anxiety.
