It can be difficult to identify never mind talk about how we are feeling. It may be you don't want to bother people with your problems or you don't want to dig too deep as you're not sure what you will find. Therapy can provide a space for exploring your experiences and help you understand why saying what you really mean is so challenging. I've been pondering a phrase my therapist always uses when discussing personal growth. 'Work in progress'. I've always liked this phrase as it feels compassionate. What I often struggle with is the 'but when is the work done?!' When will it be complete? And the truth of it is that when it comes to working on ourselves it's not a task that is ever 'done'. There are no 100% completions. Think of it more as light bulb moments that either speed up our process or unstick us from a jam. Therapy is not a magical fix even if we long for it. It can however get those cogs moving and help us find moments where the work doesn't feel so hard. Some days growth can feel impossible and distant and that might be a sign that you need some help. If you're feeling stuck or drained then consider exploring therapy. Sometimes we all just need some support to make the progress.
