What happens when you internet search ‘washing nuts, and drying balls’ 😂

So when it comes to products I use, I always insist on it being organic. No chance I want nasty and damaging chemicals in my foods, on my skin or on my clients skin.
Recently I’d been thinking about how damaging washing products are to the environment, but also to the body(I’ll let you research that if you fancy) and while I tend to use less damaging products like Method and Eco-over, there’s no denying they’re hella expensive. Which brings me to my next concern, growing energy bills and rising costs at the supermarket. So what I needed was a much more cost effective alternative……

Soap nuts. Soap nuts are Indian soap berries, a natural detergent due to natural cleaning essences found in their shell. Use 4/8 in a little wash bag, in your load, and replace every 4 or so washes. Cheap as chips, 1kg should last me around 1 year and only cost around £13! Compare that to the usual cost of your normal soap detergent!

Wool dryer balls. These not only replace the nasty chemical riddled fabric conditioners, but also are supposed to reduce drying time by 25/40%. Pop all 6 in the dryer and let them bounce around separating fabrics, fluffing materials and reducing static. These were £7 for all 6 and can be used hundreds of times.

So I make that just £20 for my years supply of wash needs, totally natural, chemical free, kind to my skin(I have eczema) and plastic free. Seems a no-brainier right? Let’s hope so.

Dark chocolate/cocoa health benefits.

Let’s face it, who doesn’t love to indulge in a little chocolate? Ever wanted a few good reasons to eat it in moderation, and still be doing great things for your body? Yep, thought so.

Reasons to eat a few cubes a day -
Soluble fibres. Improves digestion, may reduce blood cholesterol and sugar, lowering risk of diabetes.
Iron. Growth, development, hemoglobin, hormones.
Magnesium. Regulating muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, bones, energy.
Copper. Forms red blood cells, healthy bones, vessels, and nerves. Immune function, and prevent cardiovascular disease.
Manganese. Metabolism of amino acids, cholesterol, glucose and carbohydrates. Bone formation, blood clotting, inflammation reduction.
Potassium. Regulates fluid balance, muscle contractions, and nerve signals. Helps prevent against strokes, kidneys stones and osteoporosis.
Phosphorus. Formation of bones and teeth, making protein for growth, maintenance and repair of cells and tissues.
Zinc. Immune system support, manufacturing of proteins and DNA.
Selenium. Reproduction, thyroid function, DNA production, and protecting the body from damage caused by free radicals and infection.

Okay, so if that’s not impressive enough that it contains all those essential nutrients, here’s a bit more info to tickle your brain.

It contains more antioxidants than any fruit.
May lower blood pressure.
Potentially lowers the risk of heart disease.
Protects against sun damage.
May improve brain function.
Phew eh? 😮

So what do I look for in my dark chocolate purchase I hear you ask?

Never go lower than 70% cocoa. If you can, aim for 84% and higher. The higher the %, the higher the antioxidants and nutrients.
The higher the %, the lower the sugar content will be.
Looking at the label.. lecithin isn’t necessary, avoid if possible. Make sure there is no added sugar, or it’s the last listed ingredient. Milk fat is not needed, trans fats, are not needed, so if it says the words Hydrogenated or Partially Hydrogenated, it contains trans fats, so put it back on the shelf 😉
Keep it Organic, keep it Fair Trade. You know it makes sense.

Oh, also gonna just put it out there, dark chocolate might just perk up your sexlife too. And I don’t just mean she’ll be thankful you bought her a bar. 😉 think blood flow, and dopamine.

So am I telling you to sink a bar a day? Lordy, no. But a few squares a day, maybe 5 days a week, or an amazing quality hot chocolate, will certainly be a winner.
