Spot the difference! Our OCT is so helpful; last year this lovely lady came in noticing that her right vision was a bit odd- see picture on the left. We were able to diagnose and refer her to Oxford Eye Hospital where she had treatment within a week and now has the excellent result shown on the right!

£15,100! Thank you!

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us and donated to our winter appeal this year. It is thanks to your generosity that we reached a massive £15,100! Our appeal is now closed!

This money will go directly to funding our vital services, like Green Walks, Social Groups, Technology Training, befriending and Children and Young People’s groups, supporting people living with sight loss, and helping them regain their independence and confidence.

Thank you, from everyone at MyVision Oxfordshire.

The Govt are consulting on how best to introduce various road safety strategies. It looks like people will need to respond before the end of March, so please do https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/introducing-mandatory-eyesight-testing-for-older-drivers Currently the UK is one of the few countries where drivers self-declare their fitness to drive, without providing any evidence. Everyone should have regular eye examinations, but we don't want the new rules to be too onerous, or restrict where drivers can go. Please reply to their consultation!
Unfortunately the Dept of Transport do not seem to understand the restrictions placed on NHS eye tests by the Dept of Health- we cannot claim for NHS sight test if no symptoms and already had an NHS test within 2 years. Also they are underestimating the cost of additional fields, which is surprising as they currently fund DVLA field tests via a contract with Specsavers

The College of Optometrists and The Association of Optometrists welcome the government’s plans to introduce mandatory eyesight testing for drivers over the age of 70, as part of its new strategy published today.

As part of the reforms, The Department for Transport will consult across five areas of the strategy, including mandatory eyesight testing for older drivers.

We have repeatedly urged reform to UK driving law, with calls that include:
⚪ A mandatory requirement for drivers of ALL ages to submit evidence of a recent eye test at initial licence application and at every renewal – every 10 years and then every three years from age 70

⚪ Increased public awareness of the importance of regular eye tests between renewals, recommended every two years or as advised by their , to ensure drivers continue to meet driving standards.
