Watching “The Truth About Obesity” on BBC1 tonight. Some great insights into the science of obesity (which is a bit of a busman’s holiday from studying my nutrition diploma 🤣).

They showed a really simple test to see if you have excess fat surrounding your internal organs. It’s called the string test.

Placing one end of the string underneath your heel, bring the ball up the side of your body to the top of your head. Cut the string there. Then fold the length in half. You should be able to take this folded length around your abdomen (at belly button height) with the two ends meeting in the middle.

If they don’t meet, this can indicate excess abdominal fat (unless you are pregnant of course 😁), which also means an excess of fat around your organs.
