🏥 Building Works at the Practice 🚧

You may notice that our GP practice is currently undergoing some building works for the next few weeks. We’re making improvements to enhance our facilities and create a better environment for our patients and staff.

While our medical care continues as normal, the surroundings may look a little less polished than usual and there may occasionally be some noise. Please excuse our appearance while these upgrades are underway. The works are to improve our clinical rooms.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we invest in improving your local NHS services. We look forward to welcoming you into a refreshed and improved practice very soon. 💙

🐧Stay steady in the icy weather!

Please check on vulnerable family, friends and neighbours. If you do need to head out in the cold weather this weekend, here are some tips to help stay steady👇

➡️ Choose proper footwear: Wear sturdy boots or shoes with rubber, non-slip soles.
➡️ Use walking aids wisely: If using a cane or walker, ensure it has non-slip tips. Adding ice-gripper tips helps maintain grip on icy surfaces.
➡️ Adopt the 'penguin walk' technique: Take small, shuffling steps with knees slightly bent, keep hands free, and center your balance to reduce slipping.
➡️ Avoid non-essential outings: If it’s icy or snowing, stay indoors unless it’s urgent - consider home shopping delivery or asking for help.
➡️ Clear and treat walkways: Regularly shovel or sweep snow and ice around your home. Spread grit, sand, or even cat litter to create safe traction.
➡️ Plan your path: Use well-cleared routes with handrails whenever available. Walk on areas like grassy verges rather than unknown icy pavements.
➡️ Dress warm & protective: Wear layers to keep muscles warm and reduce injury risk. Reflective clothing aids visibility in darker, winter light.
➡️ Keep essentials close: Carry a phone when heading outside to call for help if needed.
➡️ Stay active to strengthen balance: Exercises like walking, seated workouts, or balance routines help maintain strength and coordination.

Good morning!

We walked in this morning to a lovely untouched blanket of snow on our car park.

Whilst we appreciate the beauty of snow, we have closed our car park to avoid any collisions and damage. We have opened one gate, and myself and the amazing Debbie have cleared a path and gritted. Please be careful when walking through the car park.

Please also note, we are operating on low staff and as such, your wait times over the phone will be considerably longer. Please bare with us whilst we aim to keep our services open and running.

🌿 We’re introducing Total Triage at Hama Medical Centre 🌿

From Wednesday 26th November, our practice will be moving to a Total Triage system to help patients get the right care, at the right time, from the right clinician.

Using Rapid Health AI, you can now submit your medical or admin queries online — safely, quickly, and in your own words. The system will guide you through a few simple questions, helping us to understand your needs and ensuring your query reaches the best member of our team.

🏥 What this means for you:
• You can contact us online 24/7 via our website.
• Your request will be reviewed by our clinical team the same day (during opening hours).
• We’ll let you know the most appropriate next step — this might be a call, message, prescription, or appointment.
• It helps us prioritise urgent issues and reduce waiting times.

Demand for GP services are higher than ever, and this new system helps us manage care more efficiently while keeping everyone safe. It supports our team by enabling us to gather key details early — allowing our clinicians to spend more time caring for you.

Movember starts today 🥸

This November we’re backing men’s health — prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health. The numbers are serious: too many men are being diagnosed late, and too many men are struggling in silence. Movember exists to change that by getting men talking, checking, and getting help sooner.

So here’s the challenge:
Grow a moustache. Start a conversation. Check in on yourself and your mates.

If you notice changes when you go to the toilet, any new lumps or pain in the testicles, or you’re not feeling yourself mentally — please don’t wait. Speak to a clinician. Contact the practice, call NHS 111, or in an emergency call 999.
