People/s required to work in KM Cafe some Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings every week. Full training given, including barista training, health and safety, food hygiene, first aid and social model of disability training ( as will include working with some young adults with learning disabilities). Please message me for a discussion and if wish to consider applying or you know someone it could work well for.

I am enjoying doing my Masters in Education through the University of Exeter and currently reading about Vygotsky’s well known ZPD.

This is quoted as an important part of some well known reading tracker systems, yet crucial and implicit to the theory is scaffolding, something missed in the tracker which is more about comparisons and motivating children to read!

Learning relationships, including family, peers and teachers, and also collaborative learning processes, well designed learning environments and culture are vastly important.

In short, read and talk about books, and learn from others. Be mindful that expensive, virtual learning packages don’t often do what they actually say they do and cannot replace a skilled ‘more knowledgeable other’!

Our crowdfunder is live. We need YOUR help 😘

We are now starting to run the KM United cafe, offering work experience to Abbie and Andrew and to more in future. It will also offer employment to local people. To make this happen and so it is sustainable, we need to fund the ex-rental Monroc Coffee Machine from Owen’s Coffee and adapt training to support this working here.

We are delighted to be working hard on improving the clubhouse at KM United where Lift the Lid will employ staff and offer work experience to young adults with special needs and loads of potential.

Thanks for local people who have kindly donated paints, tiles etc, reduced prices items and especially to Hope Cove Gallery for supplying free artwork, Morrisons for supplying some food, Burts crisps for helping us get started and to Annie’s Decor for loads of free advice, tips and guidance.

Thanks also to West Plumbing for enabling the coffee machine to be plumbed in by donating some much needed expertise.

Our coffee machine will be coming from Owens Coffee and we look forward to using their organic quality coffee beans.

Matt is looking forward to his barista training today and then making resources and adapting the training to make it accessible for all to learn in a supportive environment 👍 ☕️ ⚽️ 👍
