Our next Sensory Processing Differences session is on March 10th — just 2 days from today!

These Tuesday sessions are designed for parents, carers and staff supporting neurodivergent children. Together, we explore what SPD is, how it can show up in everyday life, and practical ways to support regulation at home, in school and in the community.

Alongside the group session, you can book a free 45-minute 1:1 support slot with The Fidget Project’s founder, Lynne — a chance to talk through your child’s individual needs, ask questions, and gain tailored guidance.
(Free to book — donations are always welcome and greatly appreciated.)

To book your place or a 1:1 session, simply scan the QR code on the poster or use the booking link here: https://calendly.com/mail-thefidgetproject/45lynne

We also run a SEND/NDV Parents & Allies Support Group every 4th Friday of the month — a welcoming space to share experiences, ask questions, and talk openly about neurodiversity and sensory processing differences. Everyone is welcome.

You’re not alone on this journey 💛

Neurodiverse children often have wonderfully strong interests — and through them, they develop incredible skills.

“Appliance Boy” has always loved machinery…
It started with hoovers years ago.

Now? He turns his skilled hands (and brilliant brain!) to plumbing fixtures, mechanical equipment, repairs and restoration work of all kinds. If it has an appliance, he’s interested. If it’s broken, he wants to understand it.

These days, he’s also turning his hands to chipping Willow bark, changing filters on equipment, and recharging household tools — always learning, always refining his craft.

Passion builds expertise. Curiosity builds capability.

What strong interests, talents or specialist skills do your NDV children have? We’d love to celebrate them 💛

This April for World Autism Acceptance Month, our very own Finlay is walking 10K in support of the National Autistic Society 💙

Finlay is a valued member of our community, and we’d love to get behind him as he raises awareness, promotes acceptance, and supports autistic individuals and their families.

If you’re able to donate or share, it would mean so much. Let’s walk alongside him in spirit 💛

Every person has a sensory processing profile. We all receive sensations differently: bright or dull sights, loud or soft sounds, levels and kinds of touch, taste sensations, reactions to smells. These differences affect our balance, our movements, our ability to cope, our ways of being with others. Neurodiverse children have sensory processing differences (SPD) that make everyday situations more difficult to manage. Their SPD affects their behaviour. Unlike neurotypcial children. some NDV children have to seek out more sensation to be able to register signals in their different brains. Some avoid sensations in order to manage. Some learn to mask their difficulties... but then 'melt-down' or 'shut down' later. The more we understand about SPD, the better able we are to make our homes and classrooms safer and more comfortable for our NDV children. Then they can show us their talents.

Magnetic Construction Blocks are a very useful tool. They can support a child to focus and concentrate, to develop fine motor skills, to enjoy creative play. We have different versions of magnetc blocks available for loan in our lending library. All loans are free . We just ask for a review so that other families can find out what is worth adding to their own tool or toy cupboard. Look out for our members' reviews in the coming days.

SEND means Special Educational Needs and Disability. Neurodiverse (NDV) children are classified as having a disability. Their differently wired brains can offer novel and needed perspectives on our world. The sights, sounds, movements, pressures, expectations, tastes, smells and personal spaces in everyday, neurotypical situations can result in sensory overload or shut-down. This can prevent a child with SPD from revealing their stregths. In this way, NDV children can be disabled by their environments. The Equality Act 2010 protects the rights of NDV children and entitles them to "reasonable adjustments" . The Fidget project works to support homes, community venues and schools to become safe and more comfortable for our children with SPD.

Testimonial Tuesday: This week we're hearing from a parent about their son's incredible growth in understanding his own sensory needs. The journey to self-advocacy is powerful, and we're grateful to share these stories. 💙

Sensory tools aren’t just toys, they help children and adults regulate, focus, and feel grounded, supporting emotional wellbeing and movement in our space.

A big shoutout to for leading by example and creating more inclusive community spaces. 💙

💛 One Year of The Fidget Project CIC 💛

In our first year, your support has helped us reach families, schools and communities across South Hams, offering understanding, practical tools and safe spaces for neurodivergent children.

We’ve learned, grown, and made a necessary pivot, focusing on delivering local services that make a real difference, right where they’re needed most.

Thank you for believing in this work.
Thank you for standing with our community.
