๐ Supporting Parents. Understanding Sensory Needs. Building Safer Schools.
Last week, the Fidget Project team was pleased to deliver a parent support session at East Allington Primary School, kindly invited by SENDCo Emily Risby.
Together with parents, we explored how sensory processing differences shape everyday experiences for neurodivergent children; from sound, touch and movement, to recognising hunger, balance, and body awareness.
Led by Emma Wise, Sensory Integration-aware Theraplay practitioner, the session offered:
โจ Practical, real-life strategies
โจ Gentle ways to reduce overload and support regulation
โจ Space for honest conversations grounded in lived experience
When we begin to understand sensory overload, we begin to understand behaviour, and how deeply it affects learning, wellbeing, and family life.
The session ended with children exploring our fidget tools (the Montessori anxiety board and squidgy balls were firm favourites!) and parents staying back to keep the conversation going ๐ฌ
We were even asked to come back, next time for staff too, and weโd be delighted.
