What were your biggest lessons that you learnt after birth after caesarean or birth after previously traumatic birth?

My biggest lessons were:

1- that my body needed lots of time and privacy to do it's thing

2- without my support team I couldn't have had the healing birth I craved

3- I under estimated my fears and doubts and they were more powerful than I'd anticipated during my labour.

I recently recorded a chat I had with another VBAC mum Hannah Palamara. She had a VBAC after 2 emergency caesareans and she shared how her birth preparation differed the third time around.

I think lots of you might find it helpful so here is the link. It's completely free to listen and available for everyone.

Good luck to all of you currently preparing for your births. Sending love ###

Today on Tipping The Balance we hear from Helen Boyle. is a full time Police Officer, an author and also the co founder of iX Global.

Helen has been through a lot of personal difficulties both linked to physical and mental health.

In this episode Helen takes us through the journey of her life where she says the first 20 years were close to perfect and the next 20 years seemed to go from one major trauma to another. This left Helen with severe PTSD but she is now in a place where she feels content and happy with life.

Helen lost her mother to a brain tumour when her mum was only 43 years old and after Helens daughter was born she started developing headaches. To her shock and disbelief Helen also has a brain tumour in the same place as her mum.

Helen suffered a traumatic brain injury after being struck by a Police baton whilst on duty at a music festival in Manchester and this left Helen needing neurological rehabilitation for 9 months.

Helen shares how her life events have shaped her and what she’s learned along the way. Helen has taken control of her own healing on several occasions. When she discovered that helped her take control of her own personal healing journey after suffering PTSD after years as a Family Liaison Officer for the Police.

Helen is co-author of an exceptional book, 'She Is Unstoppable,’ with a group of outstanding female authors who have risen through adversity and became true inspirations to all. The book uncovers the lives of 12 global leading influencers, thought leaders and change makers.

Helen is an amazing woman, and I am grateful for her sharing her story.

This weeks episode is in the pipeline!! A couple of days later than usual but worth the wait.

I thought I’d share this little nugget from the beginning of my chat with

What I love about podcasting is the time I get to speak in depth to people about their lives. The things I learn, the stories that are told and the reactions I get from those who listen.

I’ve had lots of people talk about how the openness of the stories and the rawness has really blown them away.

Thank you so much for listening. This weeks episode will be ready for you tomorrow. A little Easter Sunday treat for you all. 🐣

Lots of love,

Katie xx

“Seeing beauty in a flower could awaken humans, however briefly, to the beauty that is an essential part of their innermost being, their true nature.

The first recognition of beauty was one of the significant events in the evolution of human consciousness. The feelings of joy and love are intrinsically connected to that recognition.

Without our fully realizing it, flowers would become for us an expression in form of that which is most high, most sacred, and ultimately formless within ourselves. Flowers, more fleeting, more ethereal, and more delicate than the plants out of which they emerged, would become like messengers from another realm, like a bridge between the world of physical forms and the formless. They not only had a scent that was delicate and pleasing to humans, but also brought a fragrance from the realm of spirit.

Using the word ‘enlightenment’ in a wider sense than the conventionally accepted one, we could look upon flowers as the enlightenment of plants.”

A week ago I was interviewed on by about moving out of London to the country during lockdown.

I’ve been giving that a lot of thought this week. We’ve now passed one year of lockdown and I realised that we have spent the majority of it in Devon. We only spent 3 months in London at the beginning of the pandemic.

The first question asked me during the interview was “are you happy?” My answer was yes but there is SO much more to that answer.

I’ve often wondered if I thought that moving to Devon would be some sort of silver bullet? The missing piece of the “happiness puzzle.” Is life all roses now? No it isn’t but that’s just life, no matter where you live!

There is no magic answer, no silver bullet. “If I only we had XYZ we’d be happier.” That is a toxic concept but widely believed by most people, and me too!!

It was when we first moved down here that I had the idea of the podcast. This concept of balance. What does that even mean?

I said during the radio interview that we had gained a lot and also lost many things by moving here. On balance, we are happier, or so I think. The lack of childcare support is felt keenly at the moment. We were spoilt in London! How you weigh up these pros and cons is so difficult and changes on a daily basis.

As the days get longer and warmer I am really looking forward to seeing people, sharing our life here. It still feels like a holiday a lot of the time.

Spring in Devon has been amazing, it’s as if you can notice the season unfolding in front of you in slow motion. I’m so much more aware of the new leaves on the trees and the beautiful blossom that is flowering all around us.

We spent the day at the beach and sampled ice cream. It was a perfect day. I can’t wait to share all of this with our family and friends soon. I miss you all dearly.

Today we hear from Caroline Domanska, Caroline is a money mindset coach and has worked in the finance industry for over 20 years. In this episode we discuss all things money. How can we get the balance right with working, managing homes and childcare whilst also working towards financial freedom?

Money can be such a taboo subject and for women especially, even in 2021, it’s still all too common for women not to be in charge of their own finances.

We debunk the myths around financial freedom and what that might mean for different people.

Financial freedom doesn’t have to mean zipping around the world on yachts and sipping on champagne (although that does sound rather nice!)

Caroline shares how you can have a more open mindset when it comes to money. We all have a relationship with money, we have conditioning and our beliefs to go with it. Do you know what your beliefs are around money?

“What do you want money to do for you? What dreams do you want brought into reality? That’s all money does, it brings dreams into reality.”

Caroline asks, "Do you give money “jobs”? Money that doesn’t have a job tends to disappear! You can start taking more control of your finances even if you only have £1. It can help to get you psychologically in the right place."

Caroline gives loads of practical steps to help you unpick what your relationship is with money and how you can take simple steps to be better in control of your finances. I learned so much from my conversation with Caroline and I know you will too.

If what you hear today resonates with you please do share this episode with your friends.

Episode 11 has been getting A LOT of love! Thank you so much!

Toni shares how she feels that the trauma we experience leads us to the places we go. Toni has struggled with the sense of loss of control of her life. It’s something she and I have chatted about quite a bit. I think we can all resonate with that. We all want to be the ones in the driving seats of our lives. Sometimes things happen that we can’t have accounted for, things we didn’t ask for, didn’t agree to. The trauma of these experiences can impact us in a monumental way.

A year after going into rehab Toni admits she is like a different person. It’s taken time to learn how to look at life differently. To learn how to surrender. This is an ongoing process of course.

I couldn’t be more proud of her for opening up and sharing her story here with us all.

I have met some truly amazing people in my life. Especially some women who have really touched me and whom I will never forget. I’ve learnt so much through the variety of friendships I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of.

Thank you 🙏🏻
