Phase 1 of Sam's plan has been completed.

-7kg here, 109kg down to 102kg in 6 weeks.

Sam came to me wanting to tidy up for his holiday, we spent the first week or so creating structure within his nutrition, training and expenditure. Established a baseline and then moved into a fairly aggressive deficit.

Sam's a very busy man, working shift patterns of days and nights, followed by preparing for a long distance running event in a few months, as well as coupling in his weight training regime. Within all of this we still found time and a place for him to enjoy social occasions, events and enjoy some food off plan.

We created balance, structure and goal setting. His work ethic is what brought it to life, he didn't complain, he ticked every box every single day and put the work in. He's an absolute pleasure to work with and we have mapped out big plans for him once he's back from sunning it up on holiday!

Recognising Progression

Progression is a combination of multiple variables and they aren't always linear.

The basics are body weight, performance and look. These are the three staples of monitoring progression, with each of these you can have a fairly accurate representation of what's happening and if it's progression or stagnation.

So what do I mean by that?
Well it's pretty simple, if you're in a fat loss phase then are likely to be times where the body weight actually sticks and holds at a particular point. If we were purely tracking body weight, then we would be concerned that this person is no longer progression. However, if we delve into performance and look, this person is improving in the gym and they are looking tighter each check in. So that, is progression. Having all three shows us that while one of the variables has stuck, the others are improving. Therefore everything is heading in the right direction.

This can work on a basic level interchangeably between the variables, however the deeper you get into it there are a lot more including, digestive performance, sleep quality, cardio amounts, training intensity and all the micro variables involved within that, general feeling of well being.

The takeaway from this is that we would recommend at the very basic level that you're tracking the three main variables, you'll have a much easier time recognising your own progression and understanding what your body is doing.

You're probably doing better than you think, even if the scale isn't moving.

"Its a marathon, not a sprint"
6 years, 20kg up.

This is a visual representation, that I have been there. I was 70kg, I wanted to build muscle, be stronger, have that body you see plastered all over social media. I never thought I would get to where I am today, but that doesn't matter. I pursued it regardless, no excuses, just box ticking.

This wasn't an overnight process, it took me a very long time, huge amounts of effort and consistency, but I wanted it, and I set my mind to it. Here we are, many years later proving that the cliche is true, it is a marathon and building muscle is a long arduous process.

I know how hard it is to put everything into something and keep just plugging away, day after day. But if anything these pictures and my progression is a testament to the process. It doesn't matter how "fast" your metabolism is, it doesn't matter if you aren't genetically predisposed to putting on muscle. Put your mind to it, and put the work in because I promise you, you will reap the rewards in the future.

Just get the work done.

Good morning, how are we?

I wanted to take a minute this morning with it being Monday to talk about motivation and what it represents.

It's no secret that we all have those days where motivation is on the lower end of the scale. We don't want to get up, prep our meals, or go to the gym. Whatever it may be, there are always going to be instances where frankly, we can't be bothered.

I'm sure that's nothing new to the vast majority of people, but it's in these moments, that going against the grain is crucial. What I mean by that is, when you are feeling particularly tired, or don't feel like doing the job at hand (whatever that is) if you can push past that thought process and feeling and go onto complete that task; the rewards both in steps towards your goal, and the feeling of accomplishment are second to none.

If you have the opportunity to speak to anyone who is working towards something big, or has been pursuing a goal for an extended period of time there is one variable that is a constant; "motivation" doesn't really matter anymore. Once you can push past a certain point within your journey, it's no longer the idea of motivation that drives you forward. It's discipline. Whether or not you feel like doing something, you've hardwired yourself to do it anyway, and that is what discipline is, being able to actively do the tasks at hand no matter what other variables are in your way.

This may seem like something that is reserved for professionals in a field, but in reality this is something that is achievable by normal every day people. All it takes is being able to adhere to a set of rules for an extended period of time, something we commonly know as habit setting. Build a habit, and the habit will take over, that is discipline. With discipline, all the other variables fall into place and whatever it is that you've set out to do, will become achievable.

If there's one thing you should take away from this, it would be to just be consistent for a while with something, and it will become second nature.

Keep pushing forward, be disciplined and achieve.

Good morning all!

We thought as the Bank Holiday weekend has come to a close this would be a good opportunity to discuss sacrifice.

More specifically, sacrifice in regards to social occasions, food out, drinks with friends etc.

Now we all know that pursuing lifestyle change or goal orientated change will always come with sacrifice, that's a given. However, I don't think that people understand that within lifestyle change the two aren't mutually exclusive. You can still maintain social occasions, you can still fit in a dinner date or some drinks and a catch up. That is all perfectly achievable, while still maintaining the course towards your overarching lifestyle change.

From a lot of the people I've spoken to regarding this topic, this has been the recurring concern that they've had; that they will miss out on all social occasions and their life will be based entirely around being in the gym, or training etc. For some, that might be the case depending on what it is that they want. Generally, feeling better, having more energy, better body composition, improved confidence amongst many other benefits, won't come at the cost of having a life outside of the gym.

Being a better, healthier, happier version of yourself doesn't mean you have to sacrifice everything.

For any coaching enquiries, feel free to get in touch and we can have a conversation about your next steps.

Good Morning!

It's no secret that generally most people will put things off.

"I'll do it tomorrow."
"I'll start Monday."
"I'm too busy this week."
"I've got a busy schedule."

We're all guilty of this in one shape or another, and it's very easy to procrastinate and put things off until a later date. Work or family commitments, busy days, generally being tired or low on motivation. These are all very real reasons for not wanting to potentially pursue something that could be very time consuming and daunting.

However, with that said your goals will just gradually keep getting pushed back further and further. Meaning that what you want regarding change in your physique and lifestyle will always be just out of reach.

The best course of action would just be to start, when you have these moments of desire for change, and to pursue that transformation that you've always wanted.

Just start.

Take that one moment to bite the bullet and just start your journey, I can guarantee you that a month or two down the line when you're reaping the rewards of your hard work you won't regret your decision. You miss 100% of the chances you don't take.

More often than not you will still be able to enjoy your creature comforts, your down time, family time, social occasions. They can all be factored into your plan, you don't have to worry about the dreaded fear of missing out or the long hours slaving away in the gym or in meal prep. There are plenty of ways to maximise efficiency and create a totally achievable balance for you to reach your goals while still leading a normal day-to-day life.

It's not as daunting as it seems.
Just start, whatever it is. Just start.

A transformation undergone by Joe Corner early last year.

3 months of dieting down and adherence to a nutritional and training plan took myself down from 97kg to 86kg.

This was all while juggling a full time jobs with long hours, averaging 8am wakeup time and anywhere between 2-4am bed times. While this is far from the norm in terms of day to day life, it just shows that reaching your goals is a lot more realistic than you think.

Where there is a will there is a way and preparation within a diet phase to reach your goal will mean that managing some form of balance, while difficult, is manageable.

This is a prime example of what we do here, we provide you the necessary tools to manage the balance within your day-to-day life as well as reach your goals. The two aren't mutually exclusive they can be juggled and they can be done.

Balance is very important.

We aren't talking about how long you can stand on one leg for, but life balance.

Generally most people who are looking to make changes to their lifestyle, to get in better shape or to feel better generally seem to think it's an entirely exclusive concept. That they can only have one or the other.

That's not the case. Most people aren't professional athletes, or undergoing a body building prep, or a Photoshoot prep, in these circumstances then the situation would be different. Generally we are normally people that are looking for change across the board. That means that there is plenty of room to be able to actually enjoy themselves as well, it's not 100% or nothing, all of the time.

There is absolutely a place for being able to enjoy an off plan meal, a beer, a glass of wine, or some chocolate. Chances are that you're a normal person that enjoys the little creature comforts that these things can bring. That's perfectly normal, and perfectly human. All this means in terms of your goals is that there just needs to be little changes in other places to account for these things, if you have an off plan meal planned with your family, then there can be steps put in place to cover it, a lower net caloric intake over the day, or leading up to it so that your total calories aren't way over where they need to be. An increase in expenditure is another way to help offset some of the increased calories, moving more and pushing harder in other aspects of your training to help burn more overall calories.

Even then to be honest, 1 or 2 off plan meals over the course of the week that are accounted for aren't going to hold you back from reaching your goals. In fact what most people find is that these little moments are a little motivator to work towards, and not just that but they keep you sane. There's nothing worse than being at a family or friends event and being the only person that has to say no to every single thing on the table, because you feel you "have" to.

You are human.
You are allowed to enjoy yourself.

We lead from the front.
Here is a perfect example of lifestyle, going from a heavy gaining phase into a diet phase.

Natalia is regularly pursuing gains in muscle mass and performance in the gym. She trains incredibly hard in the gym but she is also relentless with her meticulous approach to food. She ticks pretty much every box on the daily and proves day in and day out that her long term goals will be reached.

Not only that but there is still balance, even on the right where she's significantly leaner, she still has off plan meals, has a glass of wine occasionally, enjoys chocolate here and there. Being in shape doesn't mean that there isn't room to enjoy the foods and such that we like. It's all about correct life balance.

Not to mention even while being leaner she is still clearing a whopping 2400+ calories daily.

She's a testament to trusting the process and ticking the boxes each and every day.
