Ohi Day is a national holiday celebrated in Greece and Cyprus that commemorates the rejection of Mussolini's demand to allow Italian troops to enter Greece on 28th October 1940.

Ohi literally translates as a big "No" and today the occasion is celebrated in Greek speaking countries as a day of pride, strength and resilience.

Coombe's very own Greek Goddess, Ourania, bought the Residents together in a celebration of Greek Culture last night with some delicious dolmades, feta cheese, tzatziki, taramasalata, a variety of olives and pita bread. Accompanied by chilled Cypriot beer and the familiar aromas of the all important Uzo.

The group enjoyed the upbeat melodies of uplifting Greek music and battled in a trivia challenge to win the highly sought after Gold Laurel Wreath awarded to Olympians of old.

Some of our residents enjoy a trip out to Garsons Farm in Esher this week. With Halloween next week, it was great to see all the pumpkins on display - no doubt the residents will be busy doing their own pumpkin carving next week. Too early for the Christmas pic? It's only 62 days away now and the excitement is already starting to build!!!
