Unite Yoga

Unite Yoga Group Yoga classes for Beginners & Improvers, Yoga Nidra, Chair Yoga, Yin Yoga and 1:1 sessions I remain forever a student and love learning.

Hi, I'm Sarah and I offer a whole range of in-person and online Yoga classes. I know all too well, how the pace of modern life can impact our health and wellbeing. That’s why I am so passionate about creating space and opportunity within my classes for you to slow down and connect back to yourself… physically, mentally and spiritually. I spent many years teaching in secondary schools, training hard and running a Taekwon-Do club with my husband, until, in my late-thirties I realised I was living in an unsustainable way. My big wake up call was being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2013. Like many people, the majority of whom are women, I found myself with an autoimmune disease diagnosis. This caused me to look at how I was living and make some changes. I had already discovered yoga and meditation, and these were a great help to me in coming to terms with my diagnosis and implementing positive lifestyle changes. Gradually, I took steps towards living a more nourishing and present lifestyle. Fortunately, I have remained fit and well and hope to maintain this. In 2015, after having my son, I resigned from teaching in schools and re-trained to teach yoga. I have been teaching weekly yoga classes in Kinver and Stourton, near Stourbridge, ever since. I have completed further trainings in Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Children’s Yoga, Yoga for Perimenopause and Chair Yoga, amongst other things, and I am always reading and developing my own knowledge for everyone that comes to my classes. I have a special interest in how yoga can be of benefit to women as they move through all life stages and I know that it will help me and many others to stay grounded, connected and more mindful. I look forward to sharing yoga with you and I would love to see you at a class soon.

I’m still teaching this Thursday in the Wyre Forest.
It may be grey and muddy out, the rain might persist… but there’s always yoga and birdsong 🎶

I’m sharing a couple of books that I enjoyed in January.

Hekate was just a beautiful read and I loved how the godling found her power and evolved 🖤 Definitely going to check out more from this writer.

Hyper mobility on the Yoga Mat had been on my shelf for quite a while and I hadn’t got around to starting it. I haven’t quite finished, but there’s so much great information in this. It will definitely help inform my planning 💜

What did you read in January? Any recommendations?

Join me for an extended spring yoga workshop that will bring balance to mind and body. I am combining both Tuesday evening classes for this event, and I would love it if as many of you could join me as possible.

Inspired by the spring, we’ll gently energise the body through breath work, mudra, and a flow sequence for all levels. We will weave in a few longer-held poses before moving on to a restorative guided relaxation.
We will do a 90-minute practice, followed by refreshments and chat.

The cost of this workshop is £15.
Our venue is Stourton Village Hall, DY76RT.

In my chair yoga class today, we incorporated Cook’s Hook Up technique. This involves crossing the ankles and wrists, interlacing the fingers, and focusing on the breath.
It can be a great way to bring your mind and body back into balance. It helps engage both sides of the brain, settles the nervous system, and creates a sense of focus.
This led to a discussion after class about nursery rhymes and finger games that we might have played as children. I could remember one, but this one was new to me. Do you know it? Can you remember the words?

Bit of awe-hunting after class too: a tree stump with a flower-pattern and the patch of snowdrops I noticed by accident last week. They’re tucked away behind my venue 😍

2026 is the National Year of Reading.
Fewer people are making the time to read as life becomes ever busier and we become more attached to our phones and other technology. The campaign aims to tackle the decline in reading for pleasure.

Over the last couple of years, I’ve had a little challenge going on with myself to read more than the previous year. As a child I always had my head in a book and my degree was in German and English Literature. Reading was a way of life! So, this January I reset the total to 0 and made a new start.

I thought I’d share (one of) my yoga-related bookshelves and two books that I received for Christmas from some of my lovely class attendees. Both are beautiful and I will definitely be taking class inspiration from the almanac throughout the year!

I’d love to know, what’s on your reading list this January? Any recommendations?

Join me for my next online Yoga Nidra session on Sunday 25th January.

If you have heard of Yoga Nidra and are curious, but don't know what it involves, read on...

✨Yoga Nidra is often referred to as a practice, but it was originally used to describe a state of being or state of awareness
✨It involves lying still and simply listening
✨Sometimes it is described as ‘yogic sleep’, but you are not really asleep (unless you are! It’s not uncommon to fall asleep, as it can be very relaxing).
✨The aim is to allow the brain to settle into a relaxed state, but to remain conscious and aware.
✨A regular practice can help improve your sleep, turn off the stress response, reduce blood pressure, increase energy, and more!

Our online sessions are lovely. It’s not necessary to have your camera switched on if you’d prefer, so you can even turn up in your pyjamas if you like! If you can’t make the live session, you will be sent a link to access the recording soon after the live session. The recording is then available for up to 1 month, and you can listen as many times as you like during that period.

About Unite Yoga

Hi, I’m Sarah and I am passionate about teaching, yoga, health and well-being. I love sharing yoga with adults, children and families as a way of helping people connect to themselves and to others. I enjoy teaching people to work with the body they have and hope to give them the tools to develop a calmer approach to life off the mat. My classes are suitable for those new to yoga and/or those new to the Sun Power style. Sun Power Yoga is a mix of 3 styles: - Dynamic Hatha for alignment - Sivananda Yoga for subtle mind and breath work - Astanga Vinyasa for heat, flexibility and stamina Classes begin with a short relaxation to quieten the mind and prepare the body. Pranayama (breathing exercises) cleanse and balance, before moving on to carefully selected Asanas (postures) that will gradually warm up the body, strengthening and lengthening the muscles, improving balance, stamina and posture. Classes conclude with a longer, full body relaxation and meditation. A class is a chance to step away from the stresses and strains of daily life, bring your attention to the present and focus on your well-being. All equipment is provided, but you are welcome to bring your own mats, blocks, straps etc. if you have them.

As well as these adult classes, I teach children’s yoga in schools and in school holidays. I hope I can encourage children to be proud of their bodies, move confidently, develop skills for self-regulation and, most importantly, have fun!

I also run monthly family yoga sessions, which are very lighthearted and I love seeing families connect in these sessions.

If you’re not sure about attending a general class, I also offer 1:1 sessions: maybe you’re concerned because you have an injury, illness, or physical disability, or maybe you lack the confidence to join a class straight away. Whatever your reason for preferring a 1:1, please get in contact to discuss the availability of these sessions.
