📢 Don’t Ignore the Signs of Meningitis & Septicaemia

Meningitis and septicaemia can develop quickly and can be life‑threatening. It’s so important to know the warning signs and act fast.

Some symptoms to look out for include:
• Severe headache
• Stiff neck
• Dislike of bright lights
• High temperature
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Rash that doesn’t fade under pressure
• Cold hands and feet
• Confusion, irritability, or drowsiness
• Rapid breathing
• Joint or muscle pain

These conditions can worsen in hours. If you’re worried about yourself or someone else, please seek medical help immediately.

We kindly ask patients to contact the surgery only for urgent or essential medical concerns at this time.

Please remember for minor illnesses or advice the local Pharmacy can often help through the Pharmacy First Scheme without the need for a GP appointment.

Sudden eye problems? If you have a red or painful eye, something stuck in your eye, sudden vision changes, or flashes/floaters, contact the North East & North Cumbria Urgent Eye Care Service (CUES).

Call first - not a walk-in. You may get advice, a virtual or in-person appointment, or a hospital referral.

Not for routine checks - ongoing conditions like cataracts or glaucoma should be managed by your usual optometrist or hospital eye team.
