As we welcome in the New Year here at FOFC we want to acknowledge that this time can bring many different feelings. Whether you're feeling hopeful, uncertain, tired or somewhere in between, you're not alone.

These responses are common and understandable, not personal failings. When we begin to notice this, it can help reduce self-blame and help develop more self-compassion.

A gentle reminder from all of us at FOFC, you're allowed to move into this year at your own pace.

Cree created a great resource filled with grounding tools, burnout and nervous system care, overwhelm and boundaries, guided reflection, and crisis support numbers.

A resource originally built for clients but with the potential to help others, we decided to add it to our website resource collection.

⚠️Trigger Warning: This post mentions addiction and what recovery can look like. Please read with care and put your wellbeing first.⚠️

Addiction isn’t a lack of willpower.
It’s a complex relationship between the brain, emotions, environment, and unmet needs.

For many people, substances or behaviors begin as a way to cope with stress, pain, trauma, or emotional overwhelm. Over time, the brain learns to rely on that relief, even when it starts to cause harm.

Recovery isn’t about “just stopping".
It’s about understanding why the addiction showed up and learning safer ways to cope.

If this resonates with you, know that support is out there for you.

Rest isn’t difficult because you’re doing it wrong.
It’s difficult because your nervous system learned to survive through staying alert, useful, or productive.

If slowing down feels uncomfortable, it doesn’t mean you should push harder, it means your body needs safety first before it can rest and recharge.

Did you know?
Rest can be introduced gently into your routine. In small, and predictable moments your body can begin to rest, through your own choice.

You don’t have to earn rest to deserve it.

Save this for carousel for when your body doesn’t want to slow down yet and for more information or to view our online resources, please visit our website:

If you've ever noticed how stress shows up in your stomach, in the way you breathe or a tightness in your shoulders, that's your mind and body connection at work.

Prioritising your sleep hygiene is one of the simplest ways to support your mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
Did you know?
Good sleep isn’t just about how many hours you get, it’s about creating an environment and routine that help your mind and body fully unwind.

Here are a few gentle reminders to help you reset your nights:

• Keep a consistent schedule — aim to wake up and go to bed at the same time each day.
• Build a wind-down routine — dim the lights, stretch, read, or sip something warm to cue your body that rest is coming.
• Create a calm sleep space — cool, quiet, and clutter-free can make a big difference.
• Get natural daylight in the morning to support your internal clock, more so now that the evenings are getting darker earlier.

Better sleep doesn’t happen overnight, but small choices repeated daily can transform how rested you feel.

So many people walk through the world assuming everyone's experiences in life are the same. However neurodivergent and neurotypical brains often move through life in different ways.

This carousel breaks down how those differences show up in every day life, and how therapy can support each brain without trying to force anyone into a mould that doesn't always fit.
