In the early days of starting Speech Apraxia UK, it felt daunting to think I was doing it all on my own. It is now a large organisation, with thousands of people connected to it, but at the beginning that scale felt overwhelming.
I quickly discovered the real strength of the speech apraxia community. People stepped forward and volunteered their time and skills, offering support in so many different ways. From redesigning our WhatsApp group logos, to collating events into an easy, tagged format, the help has been constant and generous. Others have spoken at events, edited podcasts, shared our work on social media, and supported fellow community members.
It has been incredible to watch the organisation grow in this way. There is a real sense that everyone helps everyone within our community. Alongside this, donations have helped cover essential running costs, including business Zoom, website hosting, promotional materials, and professional fees. Wherever people can, they have found a way to help.
I can honestly say that I am not alone. Together, we are Speech Apraxia UK. Thank you so much to everyone.
