Are you contemplating joining a big box gym, either because you've been lured in by all the bright shiny kit, or simply because you're not sure if there's a better option out there for you?

We at The Fit Pod don't like to compete on price, as we believe that is a race to the bottom.....not the top! We believe in improving, building experience, and always striving for excellence, so our costs do ultimately reflect that.

- Monthly membership cost: £100+ per month (gym only, without racquets and some classes, etc)
- PT cost: £45-55 per 45 minute session (£56.25-68.75 per hour)

- Average cost per month, based on 2x PT sessions per week: £460-500+
- Standard cancellation period: 3 months

The Fit Pod

- Standard cancellation period: None, we charge for training alone, with no tie-ins or other hidden overheads.

12th April marks our 2 year anniversary at The Fit Pod. Time has flown by, and we've had an incredible journey so far.

We'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to all our clients who have worked with us over that time, and helped make us what we are today. Over the 2 years, we have.....

- Opened and developed our bespoke personal training facility.
- Worked with hundreds of different people, all unique, with a huge range of individual needs and goals 🏋‍♂️🏌‍♀️
- Helped them to look, feel and perform better 💪
- Helped to raise over £2500 for charity 🙌 (Woking & Sam Beare Hospice and Wellbeing Care and Shooting Star Children’s Hospices)
- Poured around 5000 espressos! ☕️

3 top tips for starting if you're on a fat-loss mission….

1. Realise it’s about HABITS, not motivation.
Motivation gets your journey started, but habits keep you going until you get to the destination. Work on building good habits, bit by bit, that pull you closer to your goal...and try to acknowledge and minimise the old habits that push you further away.

2. Take ACCOUNTABILITY.
Hire a coach, rope in a reliable persuasive friend, set reminders/appointments in your phone's calendar to keep you on track, etc. When motivation dips….which it will….you need someone who's got your back to hold you accountable, that pressure will keep you on the straight and narrow when morning's get cold and dark, and all you want to do is pudding for breakfast!

3. Realise GOOD is good enough.
You don't need the 'perfect' plan to succeed, you just need to establish a few healthy habits that get you going, which are good enough to progress from where you were previously. Then work on nailing them consistently, then tweak to make those habits a little more challenging as you get fitter and stronger....and you'll get there👍

Still not sure if lifting weights is really your cup of tea? Especially if you're a 'senior' reading this, do you perhaps see it as a young-person's game, or perhaps even just a vanity trip?

Then check out this recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine....It showed those that included both regular cardiovascular and strengthening exercise significantly reduced their risk of premature death.

Amongst a group averaging 71 years old, those who met the suggested aerobic activity levels had a 32% lower risk of premature death.

Adults who reported meeting the aerobic activity guidelines, and weightlifting at least one or two times every week, were found to have a 41% to 47% lower risk of premature death (except cancer)!

Which ever way you look at it, there's clearly far more to lifting weights than bigger biceps :)

What each ‘Seniors Fitness Fundamentals' session will involve:
- A 45 minute class each week in our bespoke Personal Training studio.
- The focus on improving quality of movement, full body strength, stability and overall fitness.
- A combination of cardiovascular and strength training, proven to improve muscular strength, balance, cardiovascular health, and help increase bone density too.
- Woking from the basics to begin with, to ensure everyone progresses and nobody is left behind.
- An opportunity to work with expert coaches, alongside like minded individuals, with the community ethos that our studio provides.

What is The Fit Pod?

We are delighted to announced that The Exercise Guys are partnering with One You Surrey to provide FREE NHS Health Checks in Knaphill for eligible adults aged 40 to 74. The NHS Health Check is designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and dementia.

DATE: Thursday, 28th July 2022
LOCATION: The Exercise Guys, Unit 4C, 102 Lower Guildford Rd, Knaphill, Woking GU21 2EP
TIMINGS: 9.30am-4.40pm

We are offering these appointments to both members and non-members, so please share with your friends and family!

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
• Aged 40-74
• Live, work or study, or be registered to a GP in Surrey (any 1 of the 4 options is accepted)
• Not on medication for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, an existing heart condition, diabetes, or kidney disease
• No previous heart attack/stroke/TIA
• Haven’t had an NHS Health Check in the past 5 years

WHAT IS AN NHS HEALTH CHECK?
The NHS Health Check is a free health check-up for adults in England aged 40 to 74. It's designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and dementia. As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing one of these conditions. In its first five years, the NHS Health Check is estimated to have prevented 2,500 heart attacks and strokes.

The checks take around 30 minutes to complete and involve a series of tests such as a cholesterol check, diabetes check, blood pressure, height and weight and lifestyle/diet questions.

The results are then calculated to create the patient’s cardiovascular disease risk score (QRisk2), which is their percentage chance of having a cardiovascular event in the next ten years.

The results are instant and are taken home by the patient at the end of the appointment, a copy is also sent to the patient’s GP so that it can be stored in their patient file. At the end of the appointment, any necessary lifestyle advice is given and a referral to the GP is made if a measurement is outside of the normal range.
