Justine had a great day at the ASLTIP conference last Friday filled with inspiring talks and the opportunity to catch up with other therapists from across the country. Sarah Stone's talk on motivation was particularly powerful as well as the panel discussion round inclusion in the SLT profession and the importance of including our service users preferences and values as an integral part of evidence-based practice.

Emily attended the Year 6 careers fair at one of her schools. It was a great opportunity to share some of the work we do as Speech and Language Therapists. The pupils asked some fantastic questions, and Emily enjoyed chatting with them and sharing her love for the role 💚

Lean has been supporting a child with their understanding of 'big' and 'little' through sorting activities. These concepts are often part of children's early vocabulary and are needed to describe items and following everyday instructions 🗣️

Leah has been bringing books to life through communication. Books are a powerful tool for building language. In therapy sessions we often use children's favourite books alongside Colourful Semantics to support their expressive language skills in a fun and meaningful way 🎨

Our team wore 'lots of socks' to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on Saturday 21st March 🧦 💙 💛 This year's theme is 'Together Against Loneliness', highlighting the importance of inclusion, connection and belonging for people with Down Syndrome. A small but colourful way to start conversation and show our support ⭐

Emily and Lianne recently delivered whole school training on Gestalt Language Processing at one of their school partnerships. Teaching staff were able to identify pupils developing language in this way. They went away from the session feeling confident in how to support them.

Sophie has just finished her final year 10 week placement with us from MMU. She loved being part of the team, delivering assessments and carrying out weekly therapy. It was amazing to watch her grow as a therapist during her time with us and we wish Sophie the best of luck as she finishes her degree. We really enjoy supporting students and feel it's a fantastic opportunity to show students what life is like in independent practice and why we love it so much ⭐

Becky recently celebrated 3 years at Speech Leap 🥳
Becky is loved by the children, families and schools she works with providing fun and engaging therapy. She brings so much to the team, offering clinical supervision, advice and support when needed. Becky is always smiling and we all love working alongside her at Speech Leap 💚

Last week we celebrated World Book Day. We came together as a team for a fun group activity where we looked up the Makaton signs for different children's books and shared them with one another. Using signs alongside books can support children's understanding, vocabulary development and participation during story time, making books more accessible for children with speech, language and communication needs 📚

Gina uses Talking Mats to support child-led sessions and create open conversations about stammering and emotional wellbeing.
