This is the story of how one extraordinary dog supports her person - and how that care goes both ways:

Yvonne lives with uncontrolled epilepsy and osteoarthritis - and her four-year-old assistance dog, Nelly, has been by her side since she was just 12 weeks old.

Yvonne and Nelly began their journey together through Ability Dogs 4 Young People on the Isle of Wight, a wonderful charity that trains assistance dogs for disabled children and young people. Yvonne continued Nelly’s training through their “Own Trained” programme, and the two have been an inseparable team ever since.

Nelly supports Yvonne every single day. But sometimes she needs support too.

Yvonne says:

"Nelly is my 4 year old assistance dog and we have been training her with Ability Dogs 4 Young People since she was 12 weeks old. This charity trains assistance dogs for disabled young people and children on the Isle of Wight and also runs an " Own Trained" dog programme through which we have trained Nelly.

I am an uncontrolled epileptic and Nelly supports and aids me in many ways. She can detect my seizures and let me know of their commencement. She can also alert my husband and if he is not home she has an emergency call button which will call Wightcare, an emergency lifeline service. I have osteoarthritis in my hip and Nelly has learnt to pick things up for me, find things and bring them and also to remove my socks.

When we go out she has her assistance dog jacket on with a special SOS pouch on the side. This has contact details, what to do in an emergency and gives me the confidence to go out on my own with her. She is a very loving dog and helps to calm me when I get stressed.

As Nelly looks after me it is important I look after her too.

A great weekend with the and talking with learning-hungry vet nurses about natural animal care at the British Veterinary Nurse Association annual congress. Nice for the stand to win the show prize too (also a nod for the important work the animal cancer trust does for pet guardians who have to deal with that difficult situation). Privileged to be involved with such a great team (and Malbec the Maincoon!) 👏

Our aim was to create a site that is faster and easier for you to use. We've also put all our news posts, FAQs, articles, and videos all in one place - with lots more probiotic tips, insights, and helpful information to come.

You'll also notice our three cleaning product ranges (home, commercial, fitness) are now combined and upgraded into one range - Provilan Clean. All products are still non-toxic and pet safe, but many now come with an eco-friendly and economical 5 Litre refill option too.
