NHS Lanarkshire’s Treatment Rooms are playing their role in helping reduce winter pressures by offering patients quicker access to care — without the need to visit their GP. With services now standardised across Lanarkshire, most procedures can be booked directly with local Treatment Rooms.

Treatment Rooms deliver Community Treatment and Care (CTAC) services, offering a wide range of clinical care that was traditionally carried out in GP practices. By providing these services in dedicated community settings, Treatment Rooms make care more accessible and convenient for patients, often without the need for a GP appointment.

The range of care available in Treatment Rooms has been expanded and is now offered consistently across 22 locations in Lanarkshire. This means patients can access more care, closer to home, at a time when demand on health services is at its peak.

Dr Veronica Rainey, Associate Medical Director, South Lanarkshire University Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “More than 20 procedures are now available at Treatment Rooms, including wound care, injections and leg ulcer assessment and management.

“For most procedures, patients can refer themselves directly to their local Treatment Room without needing a GP appointment. However, chronic disease monitoring and blood tests still require a GP referral. These services will help us meet the increasing patient demand and improve patient access to wider primary care services.”

A growing number of Treatment Rooms also provide the convenient Bloods and go service — drop-in clinics for patients whose GP practice has requested blood tests. First successfully established in East Kilbride, it has now been rolled out to Coatbridge, Hamilton, Lanark, Motherwell and Wishaw, with more areas set to join in early 2026 reflecting a commitment to ensuring consistent and high-quality services for local communities.
