🚨 FLU ALERT – CASES UP 45% 🚨
We’re seeing a significant increase in flu cases locally, and many people are becoming unwell very quickly.
Common symptoms:
✔️ Sore throat (often the first sign)
✔️ Ear pain or pressure
✔️ Persistent cough
✔️ Muscle aches and body pains
✔️ Feeling shivery or unusually warm
✔️ Headache
✔️ Fatigue or exhaustion
✔️ Blocked or runny nose
✔️ Loss of appetite

If you’re feeling unwell, please rest, stay hydrated, and avoid close contact with others, especially elderly or vulnerable people. We would encourage the use of face masks if going out is necessary.

We are aware that there have recently been delays with repeat prescriptions being processed and returned to us from the Woodstock Medical Practice, or prescriptions arriving to us in dribs and drabs at different times. We understand how frustrating this can be, and it is equally frustrating for us as it interrupts our workflow and creates double work for the pharmacy.

Please know that this situation is not caused by the pharmacy– we dispense medication once the prescriptions are issued by the surgery. We have raised our concerns and will continue to do so.

If you are running low on your medication, please contact us. We can provide emergency supplies where appropriate (excluding controlled drugs), so that you are not left without essential medication.

Thank you for your patience and understanding

As a small, independent business committed to serving the community with care and integrity, we work extremely hard every day to grow, improve, and offer services that truly benefit the public.
That’s why it’s disheartening to share that this week, instead of focusing solely on patient care, we’ve had to spend time dealing with shoplifters, something no business, especially in a Royal Burgh like Lanark, should expect to face on what is becoming a regular basis. We are willing to support those struggling if they ask for help, and do so when we can, as some of you know, but do not appreciate those helping themselves.

To protect our team and customers, we’ll be upgrading our security systems in the coming weeks. Your safety and the safety of our staff remain a top priority, and this will hopefully help the local area.

We also feel compelled to share our concern about the broader state of the town. While £350k was recently spent to create a “safe and welcoming multi-use space” at the bottom of the High Street, the reality appears that some of the closes and lanes around the high street have been left neglected, with broken glass, litter, and even reports of drug paraphernalia. From our point of view, it certainly feels less safe with some of the scenes we are seeing on the high street.

Lanark is a town with a rich heritage and a strong community spirit. We know many share our concerns, and we believe that more can and should be done to ensure the whole town is truly safe, clean, and welcoming.

Let’s work together for a safer Lanark. 💙

We have noticed an increase in patients either receiving prescriptions for antibiotics or requesting and borderline demanding them for the current bug that is circulating. However, antibiotics are only effective against bacterial infections, and the symptoms many people are experiencing appear to be caused by a viral illness, possibly even another strain of Covid.

Many patients have returned, reporting that antibiotics have not helped, which reinforces the likelihood that this is a viral infection. As you may recall, antibiotics were not prescribed during the COVID-19 pandemic for this reason.

What You Should Do:
- Rest and allow your body time to recover.
-Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
- Manage symptoms with appropriate over-the-counter remedies.
There is no quick cure, but most people will recover with time and self-care.

Overusing antibiotics contributes to antibiotic resistance, a serious health threat. When bacteria become resistant, infections become harder to treat, requiring stronger or fewer available treatment options. To protect both individual and public health, antibiotics should only be used when medically necessary.

We understand that symptoms can be frustrating, and we truly want to help. However, we also have a duty of care to ensure antibiotics are used appropriately. We kindly ask for your patience and cooperation in following the best medical advice.
