This morning, Kim and Jon popped down to the local supermarket to fill up our Food Bank basket at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium 🛒💛

It’s such a simple thing, but it makes a real difference. We’re proud to be able to support our local community in this way. Nobody in 2026 should be going hungry.

Most of us have faced difficult times at some point in our lives, and a little kindness and support can mean everything when you need it most. If you’re visiting us and would like to contribute, our Food Bank basket is always here to receive donations.

Together, we can help make sure no one in our community goes without. 💛

🌿 Meet the Team – Seamus “Shay” 🌿

This week, we’re proud to introduce the one and only Seamus, better known to us all as Shay!

Shay is our most experienced member of the grounds team, and what this man doesn’t know isn’t worth knowing! With an incredible 27 years of dedicated service this year, his knowledge and commitment are second to none. This year Shay has become a mentor to Sid, taking him under his wing and sharing the skills and experience he’s built up over nearly three decades.

His role is as varied as it is important. Shay:
🌹 Oversees and maintains all site equipment, ensuring everything is in full working order
🌹 Takes great pride in the upkeep of our beautiful roses
🌹 Carefully prepares memorials for interments
🌹 Helps keep our grounds looking immaculate all year round

When asked his favourite season, Shay didn’t hesitate — mowing season! We suspect that might have something to do with getting to spend the days riding the Kubota mower, which he’s rather fond of!

Next year is another special milestone for Shay as he celebrates his 25th wedding anniversary — a wonderful achievement.

Outside of work, Shay is a passionate football supporter, following both Leeds United F.C. and Lancaster City F.C. home and away whenever he can. He also loves spending quality time with his family, enjoying holidays together — although he says nothing beats an early morning bike ride with his son, Charlie.

Thank you, Shay, for your dedication, hard work and the pride you take in everything you do. We’re incredibly lucky to have you as part of the team. 👏

🐈 New Hope 🐈

A note from (Jon's) home: we have welcomed two new kittens, Rollo & Lynx, to our family. We have hope that these two boys will become life long pals for our children, now and into their future ❤️

Pets are often known to be safe emotional outlets for children, who often talk to pets about worries they may not feel they can express elsewhere, even if you give them every opportunity. Great companions, emotional support, friends and mini family members full of love and memories to be had.

Do you have a four-legged or winged, or scaled, family member? What's their name and what do they mean to you? 🐕 🦜

We hope everyone has had a peaceful weekend. 💙

Sunday evening is a time to pause and reflect. It’s been a wet end to the week, but the evenings are slowly beginning to draw out — it won’t be long before it’s time for those gentle evening strolls along the prom in Morecambe as the lighter nights return.

This week marked National Apprenticeship Week, and so it was only fitting that Sid was our “Meet the Team” feature. As our apprentice, Sid plays an important role within our team, and it was a lovely opportunity to highlight the dedication and enthusiasm he brings to Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium each day. 🌟

Jon also spent time visiting the wonderful team at St John’s Hospice to learn more about the incredible work they do for families in our community and to explore how we can continue supporting them and help raise vital funds for their services.

Nikki shared a thoughtful moment while walking the grounds — sometimes a quiet pause in nature is exactly what’s needed. 🌿

🌲 We also took a look at what’s been happening in the woodland areas, where early signs of seasonal change are beginning to show.

And of course, Otto made a cheeky appearance — keeping us all smiling as always!

As we head into a new week, our grounds remain a place of peace, reflection and remembrance for all who visit.

Not our usual content here at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium, but I just had to share this little moment that gave me a giggle! 💝

My lovely husband treated me to a box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day. I headed off for a shower, leaving Otto in the very capable hands of his dad.

When I came downstairs, I asked, “Everything ok?” — only to be told Otto had been “a bit quiet”…

I popped my head into the living room and there he was, sat proudly on the floor, finishing the very last few chocolates. He had somehow managed to open a full box all by himself and polish them off completely! 🍫

And the best part? He was covering his eyes because he knew he’d been caught — clearly working on the theory that if he can’t see me, I can’t see him! 🙈

Safe to say, someone thoroughly enjoyed Valentine’s Day!

It’s one of those simple, funny little moments between my husband and our son that I know I’ll cherish forever — a memory that will always make me smile. ❤️

(And yes — he’s absolutely fine… just very pleased with himself!) 😄

❤️ Valentine’s Day at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium ❤️

As Valentine’s Day approaches, love is in the air and in our hearts.

At Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium, we know that love doesn’t end, it simply changes shape. For many, this time of year can bring gentle memories, quiet reflections, and a longing to feel close to someone dearly missed.

You are very welcome to visit and use our peaceful setting to send a Valentine’s card or letter to your loved one. Using our special Letters to Heaven post box, a quiet meaningful way to share your words from the heart. 💌

The messages will never be opened or read, but you'll know you've had a safe place to send them. When emptied by our team, all the messages inside are added to a special composting unit so they never leave the memorial gardens; eventually being added back to the soil here at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium 🌱

Whether you choose to sit for a moment, share a memory, or simply leave a token of love, our grounds are here for you.

Love is forever, and remembrance is a beautiful way to keep that love alive.

I was honoured to be part of a breakfast meeting this morning at St John's Hospice regarding plans for their charity challenge.

St John's Hospice is 40 years old this year! 🎉

The heart they put into the care they provide genuinely struck me. They are true heroes!

Watch our FB page (and follow theirs) for future announcements on ways we will be working with them and charity events we will be planning to help them do the amazing things they do for our community ❤️

🎵 Songs We’ve Heard This Week 🎵

It’s been another busy week for Obitus at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium and once again the music chosen for services has brought some truly special moments.

From theatrical favourites to songs that took many of us right back to our primary school days, this week’s choices have been full of warmth, memories, and meaning.

We’ve heard:
🎵 All Things Bright and Beautiful
🎭 Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera
🎶 Memory from Cats
🎸 Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits
🤍 We’ll Meet Again by Johnny Cash

Every piece of music is chosen with care, helping families reflect, remember, and celebrate the lives of their loved ones. It’s always a reminder of just how powerful music can be in bringing comfort and connection during difficult times.

As I was doing my memorial grounds check, as I do every morning, it got me thinking…

At Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium, our memorial grounds are more than beautifully kept spaces — they are places of love, remembrance, and quiet reflection. Within these grounds rest thousands of memories, lifetimes of laughter, family histories, and moments that shaped generations.

Here in Lancaster & Morecambe, so many of the people we’ve loved and lost are remembered within these gardens.

These grounds aren’t just paths, lawns and memorials — they hold lifetimes of stories from our own community. Generations of local families. Memories of people who walked the same streets, sat on the same benches, and called this place home.

It’s a real privilege for us to care for this special space and to help families remember their loved ones in a way that feels personal and meaningful. Every memorial we look after represents a life lived, a story told, and a family that still remembers.

We’re proud to look after these grounds with the care and respect they deserve — because every name here is part of our community’s story, and every memory deserves a place to be remembered.

If you’re visiting Monday to Thursday and have any questions about memorials, Nikki, our Memorial Consultant, is always happy to have a chat. In fact, we’re fairly sure the rest of the office would appreciate you popping in to keep her busy for a while. 😉

Sometimes a few peaceful moments here — and a friendly conversation — can make all the difference.
