St John's Hospice

St John's Hospice St John's Hospice is a charity. All of our care, compassion and support is offered free of charge to patients and their families or carers.
(376)

St John’s Hospice provides care, compassion and support for patients with life shortening illnesses across the South Lakes, North Lancashire and parts of North Yorkshire. Our care however is not cost free, around a quarter of our funding is from the government and the remaining three-quarters is raised by people like you in our local community. This is why St John's fundraises throughout the year with events, the St John's lottery, monthly giving schemes, wills and our shops so we can be there for one of the most difficult times in people’s lives. Our services include an inpatient ward for end-of-life care as well as pain and symptom management, a Hospice at Home service for people who choose to spend their last time at home and need our support, Clinical Nurse Specialists who support people with planning and pain & symptom management, and a Respite Service for carers of loved ones who need respite time during the day or night. St John's also offers pre and post bereavement support plus other services you may not associate with a Hospice such as Social Workers and Therapists.

Some of our nurses and Hospice representatives visited Pure Leisure last month to receive this INCREDIBLE £100,000 donation to St John's Hospice! This donation will help fund vital community nursing services across North Lancashire and the South Lakes 💚
This money will enable us to deliver more than 4,000 hours of specialist care in the community and support the salaries of three full-time Hospice community nurses for a year, further strengthening our ability to care for patients in their own homes with essential medical care, symptom management and emotional support.
John Morphet, Owner of Pure Leisure Group said: “Knowing that this donation will help fund three nurses to care for people in their own homes is incredibly meaningful to everyone at Pure Leisure. Supporting organisations that make such a profound difference locally is something we are deeply committed to, and we would like to take this opportunity to whole-heartedly thank St John’s Hospice for everything that they do.”
This donation marks the third consecutive year of support from Pure Leisure Group, bringing the company’s total contribution to the charity to £250,308.33!!
Thank you so much John, and everyone at Pure Leisure 💚💐

📣 Have you heard? We've listened to your feedback and introduced a brand NEW additional shorter 8km route to this years 40th Anniversary Moonlight Walk!

We hope this will make the event more accessible to people of different ages and abilities - so even more of you can do something wonderful in memory of someone you love 💚

The minimum age for the full 16km route is 11 years old however there is no restriction on the shorter 8km - just parent and guardian discretion. Meaning it can be a full family night!

The shorter route will set off alongside the 16km route at 10pm and will also include the visit down Memory Lane on Millennium Bridge & Lancaster Castle, so you will not miss out!🌙

💚Thank You Thursday💚

🎵 First up, we'd like to say a huge thank you to our very own St John's Hospice Choir who have raised an incredible £94,551 for St John's Hospice since 2016! Check out the Events page on our website to find out where you can catch them next!

🚴 Thank you to Lune RCC who raised an incredible £500 at their recent Coal Road Challenge - a testing 105km route for local cyclists. This year, they chose to support St John's Hospice in memory of club mate Mal Bisby. Thank you so much for your support!

☕Thank you once again to Plato's, Wine Bar, Kirkby Lonsdale for hosting our monthly coffee morning in Kirkby Lonsdale. Special thanks go to our fantastic volunteers Yvonne and Gail, who were there to catch up with the locals, serve fresh coffee, homemade cakes and run the all important raffle! They raised £274 on the day.

🫶We would like to say thank you to Morecambe Morrisons and their Community Champion Dawn, who last weekend hosted an in-store event. It was lovely to meet members of our local community and promote our Four-Tea Parties. We were delighted to raise £220! Thank you also to our wonderful volunteers.

👗And finally, a huge thank you to the community of Ingleton for supporting our huge jumble sale last Saturday. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we raised £1069.08 – all in just ONE HOUR!! Thank you to everyone that baked, our Hospice volunteers that helped on the day. Special thanks to the 'regular' jumblers, who give their time week in, week out to help at the charity jumble sales.

Did you catch our head of retail Laura on Radio Lancashire yesterday?! She was explaining how much money St John's Hospice Shops spend disposing of donations that can't be sold- that's money that could be spent on patient care. We're so grateful for the generous donations we receive, but before you bring us something think 'would I give this to a friend?' If the answer is no, it's likely we can't sell it! You can hear Laura talking to Graham here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002sz0w or read the story at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2rw2wvg35o
