St John's Hospice

St John's Hospice St John's Hospice is a charity. All of our care, compassion and support is offered free of charge to patients and their families or carers.
(379)

St John’s Hospice provides care, compassion and support for patients with life shortening illnesses across the South Lakes, North Lancashire and parts of North Yorkshire. Our care however is not cost free, around a quarter of our funding is from the government and the remaining three-quarters is raised by people like you in our local community. This is why St John's fundraises throughout the year with events, the St John's lottery, monthly giving schemes, wills and our shops so we can be there for one of the most difficult times in people’s lives. Our services include an inpatient ward for end-of-life care as well as pain and symptom management, a Hospice at Home service for people who choose to spend their last time at home and need our support, Clinical Nurse Specialists who support people with planning and pain & symptom management, and a Respite Service for carers of loved ones who need respite time during the day or night. St John's also offers pre and post bereavement support plus other services you may not associate with a Hospice such as Social Workers and Therapists.

THANK YOU THURSDAY 💚

We have lots of thanks to share with you all this week, from our wonderful supporters!🙏

Firstly two incredible Y11 pupils from Bay Leadership Academy have braved the shave to support the Hospice! Well done Charlie and Brandon and Thank you! 🪒💚

Family and friends gathered at Salt Ayre last Sunday to take part in Lancaster Half Marathon, in memory of Cam Gallacher, who sadly passed away earlier this year following a road accident in Thailand. His family and friends said “Cam was many things - adventurous, funny, loyal, always up for a laugh and he brought us all so much joy with his infectious smile and energy. Cam wasn’t a runner and he’ll be looking down on us, calling us daft with that little smirk on his face as we go”
So far they have raised over £9,000, which is amazing, well done everyone! Thank you!💚

Pauline & Margaret organised a coffee morning and the residents of Overton and surrounding areas attended and helped raised a fantastic £651.68. Thank you Ladies. 💚

You may remember our wonderful supporter, Gary Taylor who took on the epic challenge of walking John’s O Groats to Lands End in May this year, over 900 miles in under forty days! Gary completed his walk but continued his fundraising as was determined to raise as much as possible for St John’s Hospice, this week Gary called in with his support crew to present us with a whopping £7,390.00! Brilliant Gary! Thank you so much! 💚

Tracey & her daughters Laura & Ellen recently ran the Manchester Half Marathon in support of SJH in memory of Tracey’s lovely Mum, Vera who was cared for by SJH in her final days. This is the ladies first time doing anything like this (& possibly the last!!) but they had an amazing day and were carried along with everyone’s enthusiasm and support along the route – they manage to raise a fantastic £890 which Tracey’s husband has said that he will top up to £1000! Thank you so much & well done ladies! 💚

We are delighted to tell you about a beautiful children’s Christmas book that was written by a patient, and her husband has fulfilled her wishes by getting it published and all proceeds coming to St John’s. Cyril the Squirrel is a tender tale about friendship, change and the quiet magic of kindness. We are so grateful to the author Jill, and her family for their support with this book, and also to many local businesses that have agreed to stock it for us. Start your Christmas shopping for a loved today at our Gift Shop -
The Courtyard Cafe, Country Harvest
Kirkby Lonsdale Tourist Info Shop, Beetham Nurseries, Inglewood cards, Kendal and Carnforth Bookshop. So far, sales have amounted to over £600! Thank you to everyone that has purchased a book so far 💚

Morecambe Bay Wills and Estates Limited kindly donated £250 after we were nominated to receive a donation along with other local charities 💚

A huge thank you to BoothsCountry, Kirkby Lonsdale for choosing us as their charity to support in October through their book sale table – the Kirkby community were very generous indeed, amount to £225.62 of donations. That’s a lot of book worms in South Cumbria!! 😀💚

Long-time supporter, Elly organised a Back to School Disco back in September at The Park at Kendal Town and raised a fantastic £342.14. The Kendal community got into the theme & there was even a netball team on the dancefloor! Thank you Elly for your ongoing support of St John’s 💚

Jenny Sinfield has raised £45.42 By holding a Halloween party and baking cakes – thank you so much Jenny! 💚

Thank you to the Autumn Leaves Vehicle Run that raised £500 on Sunday 19th October. There were over 50 vehicles from the North West clubs. They started their journey from the British Commercial Vehicle Museum at Leyland and finished Truck Haven Carnforth. To see more photos from the event please follow this link https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17Qq1QcDyc/💚

We would also like to thank Caton Methodist Church at Brookhouse for hosting a fabulous Jumble Sale on Saturday 1st November. The event raised an amazing amount of £725.79 which really helps to support the important work at St John's Hospice. 💚

We would also like to thank Nicola and Lisa and the community of Bolton-le-Sands, Hest Bank and Slyne who have come together and hosted the 3rd Scarecrow Trail which ran over the half term week from 26th October – 2nd November. So far they have raised over £840 – thank you.💚

A huge thank you to Dunelm and their amazing customers for supporting our patients and families this festive season through their wonderful ‘Delivering Joy’ Christmas present initiative.

St John’s Hospice was one of the local charities chosen to receive gifts this year, and our community fundraiser Jenny was invited along today to collect an incredibly generous number of donations.
