In Loving Memory of Daryl Butcher
1969 – 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Daryl Butcher wish to share the news with the local community that Daryl passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 23rd December 2025.

Daryl was a much-loved husband, father, son, brother and friend. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Lindsey and his four cherished children, Melissa, Harley, Kyle and James, who were the centre of his world. He will be deeply missed by his mum, Marilyn and his dad, Richard, as well as his sister, Cheryl. Daryl’s passing is also mourned by the many friends he made throughout his life, both in Lancaster and in his hometown of Brackley, Northampton, where he was born and raised.

After growing up in Brackley, Daryl moved to Lancaster in his early twenties. He began his working life locally at Dave Hudspeth’s Carpets before going on to establish his own business, The Carpet Man. Known and trusted by many in the community, the business was founded over 35 years ago and steadily grew into a well-established and respected local enterprise. Daryl took great pride in his work, building lasting relationships with customers and creating a business rooted firmly in the community.

Daryl met Lindsey in Lancaster and together they began their family in 1999. They married in August 2003, building a life together filled with love, laughter and shared memories. As their family grew, so too did their involvement in the business, with Lindsey and the children becoming part of what developed into a true family-run enterprise, built on shared effort, commitment and pride in Daryl’s work. The business he built stands as a lasting legacy to his hard work, values and dedication to the local community.

Outside of work, Daryl had many interests and passions. He loved horse racing and enjoyed regular trips to Cheltenham, as well as greyhound racing, darts, and football. He was a proud supporter of Coastal Amateur Boxing Club in Morecambe and was also Slyne Wolves Football Club’s biggest fan. With his own son playing for the team, Daryl could often be found on the sidelines, cheering on all the children, offering positive encouragement, support and kindness to all players. Daryl also generously supporting the club through team sponsorship.

In quieter moments, Daryl enjoyed unwinding with a Chinese meal from his favourite restaurants, the Fortune Star in Lancaster or the Honey Tree in Morecambe. He was also a devoted dog lover and adored his three dachshunds, Bella, Bertie, and Ruby, with Ruby holding a particularly special place in his heart after being rescued through Animal Care.

Daryl’s funeral will take place on
Tuesday 20th January
at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium at 1:30pm.

Family flowers only, please. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Daryl’s memory to support the work of Animal Care, via the funeral director.

In Loving Memory of Patricia Shaw
1935 – 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Shaw share the news of her passing with the Lancaster community. Pat passed away peacefully on 20th December 2025 at Hillcroft Nursing Home in Galgate, aged 90.

A much-loved Mum, Nan, Great-Nan and friend, Pat will be deeply missed by her sons, Gareth and Malcolm and by her daughters-in-law, Beverly and Tracey, whom she loved and cherished as her own daughters. She was a devoted and proud Nan to Lisa, Leanne, Joseph, Eric and Trafford, and a treasured Great-Nan to Ellie, Amelia, Isla, Shanaya, Louis, Teddy and Bobby, each of whom brought her immense joy.

Born and raised in Lancaster, Pat attended Ryelands Primary School and Skerton High School, fondly recalling childhood days and the simple pleasure of a “penny oxo” on the walk home from school.

She later worked as a clerk-typist in the plant inspection department at Williamson’s Works on St George’s Quay. Following her marriage, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to creating a loving home for her growing family.

Pat enjoyed a long and happy marriage to her beloved husband Bernard, whom she married at Lancaster Priory in 1958. She is now reunited with him after a lifetime of shared love, laughter and memories.

Known for her wicked sense of humour, Pat brought warmth and laughter wherever she went. She had a passion for collecting clothes, an enduring interest in local history and was a proud and active member of the Lancaster Historical Society.

Above all, Pat will be remembered for her kindness, her quick wit and the deep love she had for her family.

Pat’s funeral will take place on

Thursday 15th January at 12:30pm
at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium.

Family flowers only, please. Donations in memory of Pat would be gratefully received, via the funeral director, in support of Diabetes UK and Ronald McDonald House.

In Loving Memory of Christopher Hogarth
1939 – 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Hogarth, who left us peacefully on 21st September 2025, aged 85, at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Christopher was a proud Skerton lad, born and raised in the heart of the community. He attended Skerton School and went on to dedicate his working life to BT, beginning back in the days of the traditional GPO – a career he was proud of.

He was known for his warmth, wit and passion for life. A talented darts player, Christopher achieved great success in local competitions and was a regular face at many of Lancaster’s beloved pubs and clubs – including the Nags Head, Hogarth’s Gin Bar, The Royal Oak and Skerton Liberal Club. He made friends wherever he went and never missed a chance to share a story or a pint.

Lovingly nicknamed "Mouse" by his dad – a name that began in childhood letters during the war – it became a part of his identity, fondly used by those closest to him.

Christopher was a devoted family man. A much-loved Dad to Colin, Carolyn and Gail, cherished Grandad to Tom, Ashleigh, Ellie and Amy, also a proud Great-Grandad to Elsie, Rosie, Ralphie, Jordie, Navie, Ilias and Vinnie. He was a caring Father-in-law to Dave, Rob, and Donna.

He will be deeply missed by his twin sister Carole and he is now peacefully reunited with his beloved sister Iris and their dear parents, Edith and Robert.

Christopher was also a treasured Uncle and loyal friend to many, including his lifelong friends Brian, Woody and Reidy, who shared countless memories, laughs and stories with him over the years.

Christopher Hogarth leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and community. He touched the lives of all who knew him and will be forever missed but never forgotten.

His Funeral Service will be held at
Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium
On Thursday 16th October at 1:30pm

Flowers welcome, to be delivered to the funeral home on the morning of 16th October. Alternatively, donations in lieu of flowers will be gratefully received to support the work of the British Heart Foundation, care of the funeral director.

In Loving Memory of Susan Robinson
1946 – 2025

It is with deep sorrow that Sue’s family share the sad news that she passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on 10th July, aged 79.

She will be deeply missed by her brother Rowland, her three children Debbie, Caroline and Paul, as well as her many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and her great grandchild. Her love, strength and presence will be remembered always.

Sue was born and raised in Lancaster, the second child of Rowland and Joan Casson, and sister to Paul, Rowland and Annette. She is now peacefully reunited with her parents and siblings who went before her, with her beloved brother Rowland remaining her surviving sibling.

Sue attended Glasson Dock School in her early years, followed by St Peter’s Cathedral School. Her time in education was sadly cut short at the age of 15 due to a serious car accident in which she sustained significant injuries, including a fractured skull and a broken pelvis, an early challenge she met with quiet resilience that would come to define her character.

In 1965, Sue married Peter Robinson, establishing their home together in Lancaster and raising their three children. Peter sadly passed away in 2006.

Sue went on to become a counsellor, a role she held with great compassion and commitment. She continued working well beyond retirement age. Her calming presence and empathetic nature touched countless lives across her community.

In her personal life, Sue found great joy in simple pleasures – in her younger years she loved to dance, she enjoyed meals out with family and theatre trips all over the country with her granddaughter Ashleigh.

Her four grandchildren - James, Ashleigh, Jacob and Jack - and great-granddaughter Emmie were her greatest pride. Both Sue and Peter played a significant and loving role in their grandchildren’s upbringing, and the values they shared will live on through them.
Sue was the heart of her family – a true matriarch who led with warmth, kindness and quiet strength. To all who knew her, she was, in her own way, “practically perfect in every way.”

A funeral Service in celebration of Sue’s life will be held at

Beetham Hall Crematorium
on Wednesday 6th August at 3:30pm

As purple was Sue’s favourite colour, some may choose to wear or carry something purple in her memory – though this is by no means expected. A small touch such as lipstick, nail varnish, a tie, handkerchief, a flower, or simply holding her in your thoughts is more than enough.

Should you wish to make a charitable donation in memory of Sue, they would gratefully be received to support the work of St John’s Hospice, care of the funeral director.

In Loving Memory of Maria Hay
1969 – 2025

It is with deep sadness that Maria’s family have asked us to share the sad news of her sudden passing at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on 10th July 2025.

Maria was a devoted wife to Gordon, a loving mum to Bethany and Scott and a proud and adoring Nannie to little Louie. She will be deeply missed by her children’s partners, Mark and Olivia, and by all the many friends who knew and loved her.

Maria made a lasting impact at Ellel St John’s School in Galgate, where she worked as a Teaching Assistant until her final days, she will be deeply missed by the all the staff and pupils. She will also be fondly remembered by former colleagues at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, where she once served as an auxiliary nurse.

Maria had a love for life’s simple joys – tea and cake at local cafés, browsing garden centres and charity shops and finding treasures on Vinted. But her greatest joy was spending time with her grandson, Louie.

Holidays in Scotland were especially dear to her, and she leaves behind many cherished memories with friends and extended family there.

A celebration of Maria’s life will be held at

Lancaster Crematorium on Tuesday 5th August at 11:30am.

In her honour, we invite you to wear bright colours – especially something purple, her favourite.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Macmillan Cancer Support, care of the funeral director.
