Our story with Lancaster’s wellbeing community began when Annie took on The River Room in 2021. The River Room had already been a much-loved space since 2016 and becoming its new guardians was both a privilege and an adventure. Over the past few years, we’ve nurtured it into a thriving home for yoga, pilates, movement and meditation. A place where community is at the heart of everything. As that community grew, so did our dream. We wanted to bring what had been cultivated by the river into the centre of the city to create a second home for yoga and wellbeing that was accessible to even more people. That vision became SOMA. The name SOMA is greek and translates as “the body living in its wholeness” and that’s the essence of this space. Like The River Room, SOMA is more than just a studio. It’s a sanctuary for presence and connection. A place where movement is not only physical but also becomes a grounding and deeply human practice. From the banks of the River Lune to the heart of Lancaster city, our journey has been one of creativity, care and community. And whether you step into The River Room or SOMA, our hope is that you feel it: a sense of calm, beauty and belonging.

Looking for a gentle, uplifting way to move in the middle of your day?

Our SOMA lunchtime classes are the perfect midweek pause. 45 minutes of calm movement, stretching and relaxation in our beautiful, light-filled studio in White Cross.

These sessions are ideal if you’re:
🌿 wanting to stay mobile and steady
🌿 looking for a friendly, welcoming group
🌿 wanting to shift your energy and have a brighter afternoon

No experience needed, just comfortable clothes and an open mind.

Using our breath as our foundation, I invite you to listen & observe, to release & allow.
To find a gentle unravelling & a gradual unfolding; to remember an inner stillness and drop into a deep nurturing rest.

We will explore breath work, gentle movement, intentional stillness, mindful massage/assists & finish with a nourishing Yoga Nidra, all whilst being bathed in the gentle, soft glow of candlelight.

You will leave feeling lighter, peaceful, with a sense of clarity & stillness of body & mind.

This practice is suitable for anyone wanting to slow down, to release tension from the body & mind and to find true rest.

Introducing our first of our November workshops and the gorgeous facilitators Annie and Claire!

Now you may know Annie from her Friday Pilates classes at SOMA but what you may not know is that she’s also a Breathwork facilitator and somatic therapist! And alongside the amazing Claire from Yoga by the Lune, they will be guiding Rise + Rest. A nourishing afternoon of somatic movement, breathwork and restorative yin.

This workshop blends both of their embodied approaches combining Annie’s depth in Breathwork and nervous system work with Claire’s nature-inspired yoga and somatic movement.

Together, they’ll guide you through movement, stillness and breath to help you unwind, regulate and restore your energy.

Meet Julia ⬇️ one of our wonderful teachers here at SOMA. 🌿
Her Pilates classes are all about balance, strength and moving with ease, the kind of movement that leaves you feeling grounded and energised for the weekend ahead.

We’ve got a beautiful mix of yoga and Pilates classes running this weekend, all held in our calm, light-filled studio at White Cross. Whether you’re rolling out your mat for the first time or you’ve been practicing for years, you’ll be warmly welcomed.
