Aims

Additionally, it prepares participants to meet the requirements for the MPQC Level 6 Award in Managing and Quarry Drilling and Blasting Qualifications.

We are excited to announce three new cohorts for our Heavy Clay Technology Association (HCTa) Level 2 course, 'Introduction to the Heavy Clay Industry.' This twelve-week distance learning programme is perfect for individuals with little or no prior experience in heavy clay production. It covers the entire process from Quarry to Lorry, focusing on the production of bricks, tiles, pavers, and pipes. Through assessments and face-to-face workshops, learners will gain valuable knowledge in the sector and set the stage for more advanced studies.

The first cohort kicks off in March, followed by two additional cohorts in June and September. This course, developed by the Heavy Clay Technology Association in partnership with MPQC, culminates in a formal qualification.

Congratulations to Ethan Low from Breedon Scotland on successfully completing his Level 2 Minerals Processing Mobile and Static Plant Operator apprenticeship in November 2024! 🎓 Ethan is stationed at Ethiebeaton Quarry in Kingennie, Monifieth, Dundee.

Under the guidance of Quarry Manager Steve Todd and mentorship from Harry Sargent of MP Skills, Ethan has shown remarkable growth. His line managers, including Area General Manager Scott Dick, have expressed their admiration for his progress and are eager to support his continued development.

Alan Monaghan, MP Skills Industry Assessor/Trainer, also highlighted Ethan's exceptional learning abilities during his processing VQ. Keep up the great work, Ethan!

The one day Intermediate Level Geotechnical Knowledge is a Level 3 course aimed at those who require further knowledge on the procedures when inspecting excavations, tips and stockpiles. The course also supports supervisors who are appointed under the Quarry Regulations 1999. It will provide the knowledge and skills required to understand and carry out on site responsibilities and to help implement safe working procedures by highlighting the causes of hazards and how they can be solved.
