We are delighted that the overall rating was 'Good', and we are exceptionally proud to have received "outstanding" ratings in the following areas:

Learning Culture
Outstanding – This service is exceptional at maximising the effectiveness of people’s care and treatment by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them.
The service had a strong proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and complete honesty. They actively listened to concerns about safety and thoroughly investigated and reported safety events. Lessons were always learnt to continually identify and embed good practice.
People’s complaints were infrequent, and feedback was actively encouraged.
There was a proactive identification of hazards and risks, which were robustly assessed and managed to avoid adverse outcomes.
Staff were actively encouraged and appreciated for raising concerns about safety and ideas to improve.
Managers encouraged staff to raise concerns when things went wrong.

Independence, choice and control
Outstanding – This service is exceptional at maximising the effectiveness of people’s care and treatment by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them.
The service promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. The service had identified 732 people who were carers. This equated to over 5% of the surgery’s population. The computer system alerted staff if a person was also a carer. There was information available for carers to ensure they understood the various avenues of support available to them.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement
Outstanding – This service is exceptional at maximising the effectiveness of people’s care and treatment by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them.
The service always cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and was exceptional at supporting and enabling staff to always deliver person centred care. Staff told us they were valued by leaders. Leaders had taken steps to recognise and meet the wellbeing needs of staff.
We received 30 staff surveys during the assessment process and 97% of these described how the culture was one that encouraged and prioritised the well being of staff and people who use the service, and how approachable and supportive leaders were.
All members of staff we spoke with told us there was a strong emphasis on the safety and wellbeing across all teams. Leaders recognised that staff retention was integral to delivering a high-quality service and encouraged staff development in line with the needs of the individual, as well as the practice, and worked hard to ensure high staff satisfaction.

Governance, management and sustainability
Outstanding – This service is exceptional at maximising the effectiveness of people’s care and treatment by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them.
The service had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance. They used these to manage and deliver high quality, sustainable care, treatment and support. They always act on the best information about risk, performance and outcomes, and share this securely with others when appropriate. Leaders and managers supported staff, and all staff we spoke with were clear on their individual roles and responsibilities. Managers met with staff regularly to complete appraisals and performance reviews.
Staff could access all required policies and procedures. Managers held regular meetings with staff, during which they discussed clinical concerns and emerging risks. Managers clearly recorded any actions arising from these meetings and ensured they shared these with staff. Staff took patient confidentiality and information security seriously.

Congratulations to the whole team who work so hard to deliver such a great service for our patients. This is very well deserved recognition of all that you do, day in, day out.

Langport Carers Group will be meeting on Wednesday, 26th November, 2pm to 3.30pm at the All Saint’s Hall, 2 North Street, TA10 9RQ

This month we will be joined by Maria the founder of her counselling and support service called Grief Specialists that is dedicated to helping anyone dealing with loss of any kind. Maria works to raise awareness about grief and makes support resources accessible, noting that loss is often not spoken about enough, which can be isolating for those grieving.

Thank you to our Patient Participation Group for their continued funding of the hall and Tesco for supplying the tea and coffee. If you have not been before please do pop in to see us, we are a friendly group.
