Podiatry Treatments

Initial consultation and treatment £45
Your first appointment will take a bit longer than subsequent appointments because of the time taken to complete a registration form. This involves a full consultation, including:
• a full medical history,
• your medications
• vascular assessment (if appropriate)
• neurological tests (if appropriate)
• the treatment itself. Together we will agree a treatment plan and I will give you advice on caring for your feet between appointments. Regular Follow up appointments £40
Your nails will be cut and filed and hard skin and corns removed. We will review your treatment plan to ensure you are getting the best results and discuss how you can care for your feet between appointments. Before treatment, I will assess your nails to ensure that the nails do have a fungal infection. If it is a fungal infection I will carefully drill the nails and apply Terbinafine spray. You can take the spray with you to use at home. I will also assess your skin for athlete’s foot and advise you on any additional cream you will need to treat that. I follow up your treatment at 6, 12 and 18 weeks from the first treatment. Musculoskeletal (MSK) assessment £45
Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions affect the joints, bones and muscles, and also include rarer autoimmune diseases and back pain. The MSK assessment is designed to assess and diagnose the cause of your foot or ankle pain. This will involve taking a full medical history including the history and symptoms of your foot problem. We will agree a treatment and rehabilitation plan for you to follow at home. Sometimes further investigations may be required, such as a biomechanical assessment or referral to other specialists for x-ray, scans etc. Biomechanical assessment £80
A Biomechanical Assessment specifically examines the lower limbs to find any issues with alignment and structure and it will highlight any strengths or weaknesses. It begins with taking a full history of the pain in your lower limb. I will then check the movement in your joints and also check for any muscle weakness. Once I have identified the cause of your pain we can agree a treatment / rehabilitation plan to improve your symptoms. Please wear a pair of shorts or loose fitting clothing for this appointment. Verruca treatment from £45
If the verruca is not causing pain then it's best to leave it alone as they can often resolve themselves. However, if it is painful there are a number of treatments available that we can discuss at the appointment. Diabetic foot assessment £45
Having diabetes means you’re much more at risk of developing serious problems with your feet. If these aren’t treated properly, it could lead to amputation. It’s never been more important to check your feet and legs. This means having an annual foot check by a health professional and checking your feet every day. I will assess the circulation and nerve supply to your feet. I will also be looking for any structural problems in your feet that might cause you problems. We can then agree a care plan to reduce the risk of developing serious foot problems. Ingrown toenail treatment £45 (£85 if local anaesthetic required)
I will take a full medical history before removing the ingrown part of the nail. I will give you advice for maintaining it at home. The cost will be £35 for a follow up treatment. Toenail surgery from £400
If you have a persistent painful nail, e.g. an ingrown toenail that is not resolving, you may want to consider nail removal. I can remove the whole nail or just the side of the nail. If necessary I will treat the nail bed to ensure it does not grow back. A full assessment will be carried out where we can discuss all the options available and you can sign the necessary consent forms. We can then arrange a mutually convenient time for the surgery to take place.

A good supportive, well fitting shoe can really help prevent sore feet.

We like to post this every year to help when the weather gets icy in Ayrshire ❄️🥶
Here are a few tips to help minimise your risk of falling on the ice. Remember to walk like a Penguin (even add the Bangles tune to it if need be).
* Keep your weight forward and on your front foot
* Keep your arms out by your side to help you balance
* Walk flat-footed and take short shuffling steps
* Wear footwear that provides traction
* Step down, not out from kerbs
* Keeps your knees slightly bent
* Walk on snow or grass if possible ❄️

When you are caring for a loved one it can be easy to forget about their feet. Sometimes we never see their feet, especially if they are always dressed and have socks and shoes on when we visit. Cutting their toenails is essential in order to prevent pain, injury and even falls. If you are not able to cut their nails yourself, please give me a call.

Delighted and grateful to have received my second COVID 19 vaccine. Still wearing full PPE but it feels like a significant step forward.

A podiatrist is a health care practitioner who can assess, diagnose and treat disorders of the lower limb. The terms chiropodist and podiatrist are used by practitioners and are currently interchangeable terms.
To become a podiatrist one must complete an honours degree level course which includes 1000 hours of clinical practice. Podiatry students study areas including anatomy, physiology, medicine, biomechanics, clinical practice and much more.
Once qualified, a podiatrist is an autonomous practitioner who can deliver the treatment required for many problems affecting the foot and lower limb. Common problems that podiatrists will see in private practice include, verrucae, ingrown toenails, skin conditions, heel pain and corns, however, there are many more problems that a podiatrist can deal with.
Podiatrists are currently regulated by the HCPC, you can check if any practitioner is registered through their website.
