* sometimes the tendon can sit slightly more deep, and doesn't always protrude out as much as the last picture shows, however I have actually had mine checked by a wrist specialist and I definitely do not have this muscle *

Autumn and Winter Months - Some facts about how the cold effects your muscles and the body.

• Each degree drop below 5°c in the temperature will decrease your endurance.
• A warm muscle is 20% more efficient than a one that hasnt gone through a thorough warmup.
• Try to avoid Static Stretches on
cold muscles, use a Dynamic Stretch warm up to prevent muscles strains.
• Joints can decrease in Range of Motion.
• Nerves are more susceptible to being ‘Trapped’.
• The cold weather can cause muscles to lose more heat and reduce their contraction mechasnism, causing increased soreness throughout the body.

Most people tend to need more regular treatment throughout these winter months, so ensure you are booked in 🙏🏻

‘Can you feel that knot?’

Many of my patients come in complaining of
‘knots’ but what really are they?

In scientific terms ‘Myofascial Pain Syndrome’

1. Active: These are tender to palpation, generate a local twitch response on stimulation and create a predictable pattern of referred pain on compression. It is deep muscle tenderness or hyper-irritability. They also have autonomic symptoms such as
vasoconstriction or dilation. There may be a zone of deep aching pain that may be increased by palpation of the trigger point.

2. Latent: Compared to active the only main difference is that the trigger point will not be pain expressive unless it is sufficiently compressed this may be via manual examination.
The pain that people feel is normally local and with the referred pattern it is also often accompanied by chronic musculoskeletal disorders. It can also be caused by acute trauma or repetitive micro drama which will lead to stress on the muscle fibres and therefore creating a trigger point. If the regional pain is persistent a decrease in range of motion may occur in the affected muscles. In the neck tension headaches are very common due to the trigger point.

Various modalities can be used to treat these with the most commen modality ischaimic pressure.

Each patient may require different treatments or modalities that tie in with their sport, day-to-day activities, their general health and their bodies responses.

My time at Marine AFC comes to end. I have gained friendships that will last a lifetime, I have achieved goals such as a promotion, along side personal goals. I have gained so much knowledge & experience.

The harsh truth is that working in football no matter the level is tough, both physically and mentally.

It is now time to work more closely with my Private Patients and commit to freelance game/training/event cover with some very exciting times ahead.

The season 23/24 comes to end

Thank you Marine Football Club for the most amazing time. FA Cup First Round, Senior Cup Winners and promoted into the National League North 🏆

With some pretty big injuries along the way we made it through and stuck together as a team, cannot thank Marine enough from the committee, staff, fans and to all of the players I’ve had the best season ⚽️
