Thankyou for joining me in the woods today, what an awesome time we had! From oldest to youngest they were really busy with den building, climbing, swinging, lighting cotton wool, making leaf caterpillars, building dinosaur homes, exploring, hanging out in hammocks, creating a new entrance to the big den and many other things. Some children tried new things and pushed themselves out of their comfort zone. Some showed incredible perseverance. There was risky play which allowed them to make their own risk assessments and think about how far things should go. There were a lot of muddy hands and knees. Then we finished up with a rendition of Happy Birthday and some cakes to share.

And the best news is that it’s only 3 weeks til we can do it all again! Saturday 6th December 10am-12noon for our next FREE Nature Family Fun morning at Pennygillam Community Woodland

Today’s Nature Explorers was such a wonderful session. We talked about remembering, focusing on bonfire night “remember remember 5th November” and Remembrance Day. We made mini guys which we burnt on our campfire before making hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows. And we spent time making poppies from wool and a group giant poppy from leaves and stones (couldn’t find any red leaves so used reddish brown ones).

We broke open the new tarps and one young person decided to errect it over the big net, planning and problem solving to make it work. The big net was hugely popular today with a great game of bouncing another person - physics in action! And one of our mums found some cool stinkhorn fungi.

So great to be back in the woods!

Tomorrow Nature Explorers are back! Home ed/flexi school/not currently in school children ages 4-12ish (I’m very flexible!) are welcome with their grown ups. Looks like showers tomorrow but that won’t spoil the fun! We will be crafting some poppies, den building and we will enjoy hot chocolate round the campfire. I’m sure the children will also come with lots of ideas and we will see where they take us! Can’t wait to be back in the woods - don’t forget to book!

Things are a bit upside down this month so our FREE Nature Fun Session for families is this Saturday (15th) instead of 1st Saturday as normal.

Families with children of all ages are invited to come and join me at Pennygillam Community Woodland for some nature crafts, den building, mud kitchen and plenty of Forest Free Play. Tell your friends!
