When an “official” who has no birth experience, qualifications and has never seen a physiological birth says “normal birth” ideology is dangerous… the audacity is real…

I refer to two issues here-recent headlines by multiple gutter "press" and an article by certain *unt in the times....

Yes, there have been multiple headlines about birth, particularly home birth and physiological birth  that do a great disservice to mothers, parents, babies, doulas. Hell, some of them even throw midwives under the bus. But none of them keep asking who is perpetuating that mess, and who is responsible… Speaking about accountability….

Jeremy *unt, a privileged, white, male, privately educated, never-experienced -racism-or misogyny-or birth-jeremy rings the alarm bells about the dangers… of “normal” birth [in his words], aka physiological birth.

It would be super- laughable if this didn’t affect the real lives of mothers, parents and babies. There is a Latin proverb that goes “cui bono”?  (~in whose interest?)

To whom it is a benefit? Your fear of birth, and those headlines, based on near sero experience  [or truth]…  in whose interest are they? Do you think Daily *ail or Jeremy are suddenly concerned about your reproductive rights?

Ask yourself -whom does this benefit…and start from there. Keep asking until you have the clarity you need...

Magdalena

It is Maria Skłodowska -Curie's birthday today. Maria was a Polish scientist appropriated by the west as 'Marie Curie'.

To this day she remains the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two separate scientific fields (physics and chemistry).

🧐🤔Why am I telling you about her?

Maria's insights have guided not only modern science and medicine (radiology) but also those of us who are inspired by her curiosity and drive.
✨ She 'd achieved so much because ***she was curious and she questioned how things worked***, the same approach that guides us well in life, and also in preparation for birth.

So ask yourself today- do I know what are the basic principles of birth? You don't need to study midwifery to know the absolute basics here.

💚 What do you think? What are the absolute essential elements for respectful, undisturbed, joyful or physiological birth? I am sharing my top one below ✨

Magdalena

If you're pregnant right now and have a strong visceral reaction to this question, can you park this for a moment and ask yourself...

How does a media narrative sensationalising womens and parents' choices in pregnancy and birth make you scared of  self-empowered birth, even when said birth is supported by medical staff?

Why do they not portray with the same alarmist tone how hospitals are understaffed, unsafe and not fit for purpose for most mothers, babies and parents to be?

Yet, when well informed parents choose to educate themselves and follow well established, good quality research of what practices can best facilitate a safe and respectful birth experience ( in hospital or non clinical environment) -they are immediately branded by the said media as irresponsible, witchy, ..hippie etc ...hmmm?

I have seen no such scrutiny for each and every single local hospital, of which most are in special measures and rated as not adequate/not safe by Care Quality Commission.
But according to the "media"...as long as you're the one educating yourself, preparing and considering your options carefully, you're the crazy one for not simply handing over all control to the not-so-fit-for-purpose maternity system...

The same system that has been underfunded, depleted, marred by many an investigation, with no practical resolutions in sight, harming parents and babies?

Enough. I beg you All, check twice where you get your information from. Choose reputable sources. Educate yourself. Ask questions. Know your pregnancy and birthrights. Ask more questions....

The cost of being misinformed is your baby's and your birth experience, your postpartum , your health and wellbeing, the foundation of your life together.

As a birth partner, how do you want to feel during your baby's birth?

Birth support isn’t about knowing all the answers. Much of it is about being ready to meet the moment with calm and understanding.
When a birth partner feels clear about their role and confident about how they can support, birth feels safer for everyone.

My downloadable Birth Partner Guide offers practical tools, emotional grounding, and language that helps you support  the process with much more clarity and easy.

A small, superbly affordable resource that makes a big difference.
Simply DM or comment  "Guide" or click the link in bio for a quick access.

A quiet Friday at home. My baby is a poorly little one, sleeping, and I'm next to them... a warm blanket, and a pile of books that keep me learning. They'd object at being referred to as "baby" so I must clarify they're actually out of toddlerhood even🥲. So where was I...ahh yes, books...

Some are about birth.
Some are about the body, the nervous system, and how safety and trust are built long before labour begins.

Every page I read *may* shape how I show up for my clients or ways I decide *not* to adopt in order to best serve you. Perhaps not with more “techniques” (although that too, sometimes) but with deeper understanding and calmer presence. The real work of a doula isn’t just knowing what to do.

It’s truly learning how to be — grounded, and steady in any birth space.

(And don’t worry, I’m not giving clinical advice or trying to be a medical practitioner — just expanding my knowledge before the midwife police start sharpening their pitchforks 😅). Knowledge is power...in birth and otherwise. 💚

Magdalena

Relearning trust in birth is my response to a culture that controls parents with fear.

Fear has become the foundation of modern maternity care: fear of risk, of responsibility, of accountability, and of physiology itself.

It keeps parents compliant, disconnected, and dependent on a system that doesn’t always serve them.

My work and Lili's story is about remembering what’s beneath that conditioning...
When parents understand how birth truly works, they begin to see that safety doesn’t come from control.
It comes from connection, trust, and preparation that honours the body’s intelligence.

And this Queen went on to have a physiological, self empowered and confident birth experience twice....

If you’re in Leeds or West Yorkshire and want to prepare for a  beautiful, connected birth experience, I can help you do that.
Learn more about antenatal education and doula support at powerinbirth.co.uk, or simply DM me. I do not do call scripts, marketing manipulations, or pressure to buy

Simply a conversation about your preferences, options, and anything else you might want to discuss.

I’ve got some beef going on — and I’m not afraid to share it.

I don’t usually hop on trends… but when there’s an opportunity to name the real stuff, I’m taking it.

Some of this is personal.
Most of it is systemic.
All of it is real.

I don’t need to fluff it up.
Birth deserves honesty.
Parents deserve better.

Love,

Magdalena

✨What if birth doesn’t just happen to you—but is something you reclaim?

Our culture has long failed to honour us: at puberty, at menstruation, and through every threshold of becoming. Birth is no exception.

To reclaim your birth, your dignity, your power—you need more than information.

You need deep unlearning.

Conscious preparation.

And a return to what has always been yours.

If you’re ready to remember your power, I’m here.
