Some times we literally cannot see the woods for the trees. Mindfulness techniques help us to get back into the here and now-and it can help settle our anxiety.
Using our senses to ground ourselves helps us to do just that.
This exercise can be done literally any where…
👀 Look around you. What five things can you see a pattern, object, clouds, tree bark?
🖐️ Feel, what’s in your pocket, how do the clothes feel on your skin, can you feel your feet on the floor?
👂 Hear, listen for sounds around you, is that a bird singing, washing machine rumbling, dog barking?
👃 Smell, breathe in through your nose, can you smell the coffee, or may be flowers, air freshener, cut grass?
👅 Taste, what can you taste, the last thing you ate or drank, maybe your toothpaste?
