Ironman 70.3 (69.1) Weymouth 2025- the glorified brick session🤝🏼
An experience of a lifetime and the start of my endurance adventure.
RACE DEBRIEF
The 1.9k swim unfortunately was cancelled the night before, due to weather conditions (a controversial call, swipe for a photo of the sea on race morning🥲).
So, triathlon turned into a bike, run- numerical order, starting 3 every 6 seconds out on course. I’ve not done much group cycling, so this felt very hectic, especially as I was a lower number and not yet the speediest on the bike. However, the thrill of racing on closed roads was like nothing I’ve ever felt. I completed my longest ride at 90k, half an hour quicker than I expected.
Quick plod through transition (nothing was quick about it at all) and onto the run. First 10k felt amazing, partly because of the adrenaline from the crowds but mostly because I couldn’t feel my legs. As I got onto my second lap, my knees were well and truely cooked and my stomach was being a tad confrontational- in an hour I felt I’d aged 50 years. Paracetamol and Imodium later and I’m at 15k, furthest I’d ever ran in training.. and it’s crazy that I comforted myself by telling myself I only had 6k left like it was nothing🤣
5:58:10 later and I’d bloody done it.
My first ever 90k ride & half marathon in a oner complete. However with no swim, Ironman and I have unfinished business.
