What a fantastic afternoon of friendship and fun we all shared this past Friday! 🌟

While our Veterans Cafe is a joint celebration hosted by all four of our homes— Springbank Care Home, Steeton Court Nursing Home, Ghyll Royd Care Home, and Craven Nursing Home — this month it was Craven’s turn to open their doors and play host. It was absolutely wonderful to see everyone coming together under one roof, including our regular guests like Dave, formerly of the Catering Corps, and many friendly faces from the local community. 🤝✨

The atmosphere was made even more special by the fabulous singing of Megan Isabella. While the British weather wasn't quite on our side, the warmth and laughter inside more than made up for the grey skies! 🎤

We were treated to some truly fantastic catering provided by our friends over at Snuggle, who support events like these as a wonderful way to give back to the care home community. It was especially lovely to see such a thoughtful and inclusive spread; the delightful texture-modified dishes meant that every single one of our guests could tuck in and enjoy the feast together. 🍰🍽️

As if the afternoon wasn't lovely enough, we had a surprise visit from puppy Maud. She looked absolutely precious in her little nappy and was a huge hit with everyone—she certainly stole a few hearts! 🐾🐶

If you missed out this time, we would love for you to join us at our next gathering! Our Veterans Cafe is open to all, and the next one will be held at Ghyll Royd Care Home in Guiseley on 15th May. We look forward to seeing you there for more great music, food, and company! ☕️🧁

We have had a wonderful Monday here at Ghyll Royd Care Home, making the most of the fresh air and the start of spring! 🌸

Our Spring Gardening Club was busy this morning potting up a variety of tomato plants. These are now nestled on our conservatory windowsills to stay warm, just like in a greenhouse. We also planted up strawberry tubs for the patio, which sparked some lovely memories; one resident shared stories of his father, who was a head gardener specialising in tomatoes! 🍅🍓

We also took a stroll to the lovely wooded area of our grounds to hang our homemade bird feeders. Spending time in nature and gardening offers so many benefits, from the gentle physical exercise of planting to the quiet peace found in watching the local wildlife. It’s a wonderful way to boost wellbeing and stay connected to the changing seasons. 🐦🌳

To round off the day, the home was filled with music for Ghyll Royd Sings. We broke out the tambourines and percussion instruments for a lively singalong that had everyone smiling. It’s been a perfect balance of calm nature and joyful music! 🎶🪘

We would like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who has already donated to our appeal for The Clothing Bank. We have already seen such kindness from our local communities, and everyone’s generosity is simply overwhelming.

You can see on the post below a few examples of how your donations can help those in need ❤️…

What a vibrant few days we have had at Ghyll Royd Care Home, filled with fresh air and new flavours! 🌸 You may remember back in 2025 our residents shared feedback asking to explore more global cuisines, and we have loved bringing those requests to life. This month, we took our residents on a journey to China! 🥢 We transformed the conservatory into a springtime restaurant to enjoy authentic dishes like sweet and sour chicken, finishing the afternoon with uplifting nature poetry. 🥠📜

Yesterday, we made the most of our dedicated minibus for a fantastic trip to the historic Ripley Castle . 🏰 There is nothing quite like a stroll through such stunning, well-kept grounds to brighten the day, and it was the perfect backdrop for our residents to soak up the local heritage and beautiful scenery. 🌳✨ It was a treat to visit such a local gem!

Back at home, we focused on the personal passions that make our residents feel at home. After a creative morning painting suncatchers, we spent time in the garden with our new respite resident. 🪴 As a keen gardener, he was right in his element as we walked the grounds together, deadheading the lavender and hydrangeas to ensure they bloom beautifully. ✂️🌷 Giving our residents the opportunity to keep doing what they love is at the very heart of our person-centred care.

Happy Friday to all! 👋😊

Yesterday was a fantastic day of movement and music here at Ghyll Royd!

We kicked off Tuesday morning with plenty of energy, hosting two wonderful sessions of armchair exercises. We made sure to vary the music for each group, keeping everyone motivated and moving to the beat. It was a brilliant way to get the blood pumping and start the day on a high note. 💪🎶

Once we were all warmed up, the competitive spirit truly took over for our boules tournament. It was a closely fought contest with some impressive technique on display, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the friendly rivalry!

The excitement didn't stop there, as we were joined in the afternoon by Tom and Bob. They put on a wonderful performance that kept us all thoroughly entertained and provided the perfect end to such a lively day. 🎤✨

You may remember that back in February, Mary, a pianist performing at the home, recognised one of our residents in the audience as her former piano teacher! It was an incredibly moving moment as our resident joined Mary to take to the stage herself, performing some of her favourite tunes with grace and skill. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as we watched a teacher and student reunite through the power of music.

Following this moving moment, we have continued to support our resident in her love of music, and this weekend, we were delighted to take delivery of her new piano, kindly donated by a member of our local community. This is what truly person-centred care looks like: identifying something a resident loves, something meaningful to them and beneficial to them, and expanding on it and making it happen. We are so proud of our team for supporting this lovely lady to re-discover her love of music. 🎹

It has been a truly heartwarming weekend here at Ghyll Royd Care Home, where the focus has been entirely on celebrating the individual passions and stories of our wonderful residents.

We are so excited to share a very special update with you all. You may remember that back in February, Mary, a pianist performing at the home, recognised one of our residents in the audience as her former piano teacher! It was an incredibly moving moment as our resident joined Mary to take to the stage herself, performing some of her favourite tunes with grace and skill. The weekend's celebrations followed a very busy and creative few days. Kicking things off on Friday, we explored our grounds to collect ferns and flowers for a brilliant sun-printing experiment. After preparing our papers in the darkroom, we arranged our finds and left them to develop in the sunshine. We were all so excited to see the process work so well, resulting in some beautiful negative-style photographic designs! 🌿☀️📸

Saturday was full of energy with Fabulous Prize Bonkers Bingo, shared over tea and plenty of chatter. On Sunday, a resident helped us deliver schedules room-to-room for a catch-up with friends, and we gathered fresh flowered branches from the grounds to create a new display for Susan. We finished the weekend with a Memory Lane quiz and tablet games, capping off a wonderful few days of smiles and meaningful moments. 🌸✨

🌟 Exciting Developments at Ghyll Royd Care Home 🌟

This week, we were delighted to welcome Holly from Leeds Beckett University to Ghyll Royd, where she met with Robee, our Home Manager, to put plans in place for an upcoming research study — and we’re incredibly excited to be involved!

At Ghyll Royd, we pride ourselves on having a strong ethos of continual improvement. We’re always looking for ways to reflect, learn and enhance the quality of care we provide, and this research aligns perfectly with that commitment.

From the week commencing 8 June, we’ll be taking part in an ethically approved, university‑led study exploring how osteoporosis care is delivered in care homes. The research is observational and focused on understanding day‑to‑day care, with the aim of helping improve outcomes not just here at Ghyll Royd, but across care homes nationally.

We’re especially proud to be contributing to research that has the potential to support the wider care sector — helping shape best practice and improve quality of care for older people now and in the future 💙

It has been a lively and nostalgic few days for everyone here at Ghyll Royd Care Home! 🌟

On Tuesday, we had a fantastic time staying active with some Disco Armchair Exercises. The music definitely kept our energy levels high! This was followed by a spirited round of Carpet Boules, and we were so pleased to see our weekly winner proudly showing off his well-deserved trophy. 🏆🕺

Yesterday, we gathered together for a wonderful session of holiday reminiscing. We took some virtual walks and tours to favourite destinations across the UK and overseas. From the coastlines of Northumberland, Llandudno, and Filey to the beautiful sights of Sicily, it was lovely to see so many cherished memories sparked by the destinations we visited. ✈️🌍

Our staff also made the most of Wellbeing Wednesday by heading outside to enjoy the lovely 21 degree weather! We all shared a wonderful healthy Jacob's join, with everyone bringing in their own delicious healthy brunch items to enjoy together in the fresh air. 🥗🍓

To make the most of the warm sunshine, our residents also headed out into the garden for a few games of dominoes. It really has been a heart-warming time sharing stories, staying active, and enjoying the beautiful weather together. ☀️🀄
