What a fantastic day we all shared yesterday...

🎹 A Musical Start: The morning began on a high note as our talented piano teacher, 'M', took to the keys. She spent some time using the tiny tablet to showcase her musical talents and it was truly a joy to watch her get into the flow of things so quickly. It was clear to see how much she enjoyed being back at the piano, filling our halls with such beautiful melodies.

🧼 Scents and Stories: We then moved into a wonderful afternoon of reminiscing as we gathered to explore the Boots Memory Box. There is something so powerful about the connection between memory and our senses. As we passed each item around, the room was filled with the familiar scents of coal tar, old school soap, eucalyptus oil, and lavender.

These items sparked so many stories about our own homes and lives. We particularly enjoyed looking through the old advertising posters, which prompted plenty of laughs and "I remember that!" moments as we spotted products from years gone by. Thank you Boots UK Guiseley for donating this fantastic resource!

🏆 The Dominoes Championship: To top the day off, the tension was high for our latest Dominoes Championship! It turned into an epic battle between two of our residents from Blossom, both determined to take home the prize. We are delighted to announce that the trophy is now being proudly displayed in the Blossom lounge. It’s certainly been sitting over on Rowan for far too long, so it’s great to see it move to a new home for a while! 🌸

One of the most rewarding parts of working at Ghyll Royd Care Home is witnessing those truly special moments between our incredible residents and the local community. 🎹

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome the talented pianist, Mary, to the home for a wonderful performance of some well-loved classics. However, the afternoon took a magical turn when Mary realised she recognised one of our residents in the audience as her very own former piano teacher! 🌟

It was an incredibly moving moment as our resident joined Mary to take to the stage herself, performing some of her favourite tunes with grace and skill. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as we watched a teacher and student reunite through the power of music. 🎶✨

🎈 Bouncing into the Weekend at Ghyll Royd Care Home!

We had such a fantastic Friday here at Ghyll Royd, and we certainly made sure to kick things off with plenty of energy! Our morning started with a very lively game of balloon tennis, which had everyone sharing plenty of laughs. It was the perfect way to get moving and start the day on a high note. 🎾✨

The fun continued right through into the afternoon as we gathered in the lounge for a wonderful sing-along. We took a trip down memory lane with some "Golden Oldies" from the past, and it wasn't long before the whole room was filled with singing and cheering! 🎤🎶

It was such a joy to hear everyone’s favourite classics being belted out with so much spirit. There really is nothing quite like a good old-fashioned sing-along to bring everyone together and create such a happy atmosphere in the home.

It was a pleasure to welcome the team from Kärcher back to Ghyll Royd Care Home this week for a mid-trial update! 🧼✨

As we hit the halfway mark of our exclusive three-month trial, which runs through to March, it was the perfect time for our Housekeeping Team to share their expert feedback. Our dedicated staff have been enjoying the new equipment since December, and today’s visit was a fantastic opportunity to discuss the features our team loves and how these tools are further enhancing our high standards.

This pioneering partnership began when Ghyll Royd was hand-picked by Kärcher for an exclusive trial of their specialised Care Home range. By combining the technical expertise of Mike Burden at Kärcher with the frontline experience of our Operations Manager, Philippa Young, and Head Housekeeper, Deb Gawthrop, we are ensuring this professional-grade kit is perfectly tailored to the needs of our residents.

From COSHH-compliant mobile workstations to advanced steam technology for our floors and upholstery, these new tools are a wonderful addition to our home, making it even easier for our team to maintain a comfortable and pristine environment. 🌟

What a busy and wonderful day we had yesterday at Ghyll Royd! We have so much to share with you all 🏠

We started our morning with a fascinating trip back in time, watching an interesting YouTube documentary about the Brontë Parsonage and museum. With all the current excitement surrounding Wuthering Heights, it was the perfect way to dive into some local history 📚

Following the documentary, we let our creative sides shine during a relaxing session of crafts. Everyone used their decorative skills to create some beautiful Wuthering Heights posters, which was a lovely and calming way to spend the rest of the morning 🎨

In the afternoon, we enjoyed a fantastic ride out to The Carriage Works Museum in Keighley, operated by The Vintage Carriages Trust. We had a brilliant time and learned so many interesting facts thanks to our wonderful personal tour guide, Paul 🏛️

The excitement didn’t stop there, as we also squeezed in some spectacular plane spotting! We were lucky enough to see a Ryanair plane coming in to land, followed closely by a Jet2.com & Jet2holidays plane taking off. They were so close that we could actually see the pilot waving at us from the cockpit ✈️👋

A Closer Look at Our Indian Feast! 🇮🇳📸

Following on from our 'Taste of the World' video, we wanted to share some of the wonderful moments from today’s lunch at Ghyll Royd Care Home. Our residents have had such a fantastic time exploring the vibrant flavours of India! ✨🥘

The dining room was a sea of colour today as everyone tucked into a truly authentic spread. From the gentle spice of the Cod Tikka Masala to the rich, comforting Lentil and Aubergine, there was a dish for every palate. It was lovely to see everyone passing around the Poppadoms, Samosas, and Onion Bhajis while sharing their favourite travel stories. 🍛🥖

The star of the show for many was the incredible selection of traditional sweets! Our residents particularly enjoyed the syrupy Gulab Jamun and the fragrant Cardamom Nankhatai. To wash it all down, the Mango Lassi was a refreshing treat that brought a real smile to everyone’s faces. 🥭🍬

These monthly themed lunches are such a highlight for us all, bringing a little bit of the wider world right here into our home. A huge thank you to our wonderful kitchen team for putting together such an impressive and delicious menu for us to enjoy today! 👨‍🍳🙌

We’re already wondering which country we’ll be "visiting" for our next lunch! ✈️🌍

It was a very emotional day at Ghyll Royd yesterday as we said a fond, yet sad, farewell to a true legend of the home. 🥂✨

We celebrated the retirement of Night Nurse Catherine, who is stepping down after an incredible 28 years of dedicated service! Catherine’s history with Ghyll Royd runs so deep that she was a vital part of the team even before the Spellman family acquired the home back in 2002. 🏥💙

For nearly three decades, Catherine has provided outstanding care with kindness, dignity and compassion. She has been a reassuring face for our residents and a fountain of knowledge for her colleagues. It is hard to imagine the corridors without her, but we are so incredibly proud of everything she has achieved during her amazing career. 💐🌟

We all gathered last night to wish Catherine the very best for a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement. Thank you for everything, Catherine—you will be dearly missed by everyone in the Spellman Care family! 👋💖

We’ve had a fantastic day here at Ghyll Royd! 🏃‍♂️🏆

Yesterday morning, our residents got stuck into a brilliant workout. We brought out the hand weights for our armchair exercises, making sure everyone had a great session and kept those muscles moving! 💪✨

We followed the workout with our highly anticipated Boules Championship. It was a close-run competition, but we are delighted to announce two joint winners, both from Rowan! Well done to our champions! 🥇🎈

And we certainly can't forget yesterday’s highlight—the absolutely amazing performance from Tom and Bob! They put on a wonderful show that had everyone thoroughly entertained. What a way to round off the day! 🎤🎶
