I went swimmming and then I couldn't hear.

I had a bath, and my ear blocked up.

I used a cotton bud in my ear!

I use earplugs regularly to sleep.

My earcanals are narrow.

I work in a pizza restaurant (more on that later!)

These are some of the reasons ears block up due to wax.

Some people produce more earwax, while for others, the shape of the ears prevents it from naturally working its way out.

For others, regular use of AirPods or earplugs is the cause.

And yes, working with flour and other types of dust that get in the ears can also be a factor. Pizza makers beware!

With the appropriate treatment, blocked ears can usually be resolved in one visit.

Occasionaly two visits are necessary.

It is unfortunate that even today, many providers of hearing care are working to 'sales targets'.

The young audiologists working for High-Street providers have pressure to 'convert' you into a 'hearing aid sale'.

At The Hearing Space, we are fully independent and, coming from an NHS background, have no interest in 'selling' products.

We are committed to providing trusted, expert hearing care for those who, for whatever reason, find the NHS hearing care not for them.

Your hearing is our top priority, and we will recommend only the best solutions for you.

For honest, expert advice about your hearing, book a Hearing Evaluation today.

There remains a stigma associated with hearing loss.

It is a sign of ageing!

It is something to be ashamed of!

It is something not to talk about!

I see this with many clients, interestingly, more with my elder clients who have memories of parents or grandparents wearing bulky hearing aids that constantly whistled!.

Modern hearing devices have come a long way in the last 50 years.

Well-designed, smart, chic, with several devices designed to be visible and show off their aesthetic appeal!

What we do know about hearing loss is that it is best to do something about it sooner rather than later. There are social, cognitive, and other benefits.

If you feel your hearing is not great, or know someone who is always asking you to repeat what you say, the first step to better hearing is a thorough Hearing Evaluation.

You can book this online.

Hearing loss can be so gradual that for many people, it is hard to know how much sound they are missing.

For most people, hearing the TV becomes harder. Having conversations in restaurants becomes difficult, and in general, life seems more challenging.

Modern hearing devices are essentially mini-computers that continuously adapt to the environment and provide the listener with the best sound solution.

They connect to phones, laptops, and often the TV, allowing for clear hearing in multiple settings.

If you are ready to improve your hearing and stay connected, then book a Hearing Evaluation today.

Listening to music is good right!

In most cases, yes. Listening to music is enjoyable and poses no risk to our hearing.

But when the music is too loud, whether through headphones or at a gig, our hearing can be damaged.

Some tips to avoid hearing damage.

1. Turning the sound down by a small amount can greatly reduce the risk of hearing damage.

2. Using noise-cancelling headphones helps by reducing background sound, which means you don't need to listen as loudly through your headphones.

3. Using hearing protection when at gigs. You can get professional, custom-fitting earplugs made that reduce the sound to a safe level whilst still allowing you to enjoy the music.

If you are worried about your hearing or would like some custom earplugs, call today for advice.

Most modern hearing aids can be used to make phone calls hands free.

Your phone rings, tap your phone or hearing aid and hear high-quality sound directly in your ears.

What's more, is that your hearing aids pick up your voice and transmit it to the person you are talking to.

We can guide you through all the steps necessary to get the most out of hearing aids.

And yes, youcan listen to music, podcasts, audiobooks, and more also through your hearing aids directly from your phone or iPad etc.

Hearing care has, in the past, had a poor reputation.

Free hearing tests, pressure to buy hearing aids.

Sales targets to reach, commission on sales.

It is hardly surprising that many people, even today, report a poor experience, especially with the high-street providers.

Even local opticians who offer hearing care often use 'national chains', which means the audiologist is not based locally and usually covers a large area.

At The Hearing Space, our Consultant Audiologist lives locally, is always at hand to solve problems that occur, and, being part of the community, is ideally placed to provide support and aftercare, which is often lacking with bigger providers.

Hearing technology is constantly evolving. It can even be difficult for audiologists to stay up to date with the latest advancements.

When I first worked as an audiologist in the NHS, I would often spend hours testing hearing aids to fully understand how they worked.

30 years later, and you can still find me in my office with a new set of hearing aids, talking, whistling (yes) and more as I get to grips with the latest advancements on offer.

Doing this allows me to be better informed, which helps me guide you when you are faced with the options available.

Hearing care is much more than having a hearing test and getting hearing aids.

With over 30 years of experience, you will benefit from care, expertise and support.

Earwax. Gross or strangely fascinating!

Many clients can't bear to look at what comes out of their ears. For others, it's out with the camera and a quick photo (or video) to show family and friends.

Whatever your predisposition, we are happy to oblige :-)

On a serious note, earwax removal is an unregulated procedure, which means that basically ANYONE can offer this service.

Would you rather see someone (pharmacists included) with a day's training or a professional audiologist with over 30 years of experience?

Your ears, you decide !

For quick, effective treatment for blocked ears, book online today.
