Being a support worker doesn’t mean being on your own, even on the days when you’re the only person on shift.

Every client’s setup is different, and that’s understood from the start. Sometimes you’ll be working independently, sometimes alongside others, but there’s always a wider 'Positive' team behind you whenever you need them, you’re not expected to have all the answers or work things out on your own.

Knowing there is a shared understanding around the person you’re supporting, and people you can turn to when something feels unclear makes a real difference. This knowledge allows you to focus on the relationship with the person you are supporting, rather than second-guessing yourself.

You’ll also have regular one-on-one time with your Support Worker Manager to talk things through as the role develops. These conversations are there to support you not just when something feels difficult but when things are going well too.

That structure helps you feel confident in your role and creates the consistency that allows the person you’re supporting to live their life in a way that feels consistent and meaningful to them.

We’re celebrating february's work birthdays.

In this kind of work, continuity matters. Getting to know people over time builds trust, and shared values show up in the way care is approached day after day. That consistency brings reassurance to the individuals and families we work with, and to the professionals alongside them.

We’re really proud of the commitment and experience our team brings. The care they provide reflects a deep understanding of their role and a genuine dedication to supporting people well.

Thank you for everything you bring to PositiveOTCM.

Behind every support worker, there’s often a family quietly feeling the difference they make.

Having someone else step in doesn’t just change the day to day for the person being supported it can lift a weight families have been carrying for a long time. Parents get time to be parents again, not just carers. Siblings get moments that belong just to them. Partners can sit together, talk, or simply enjoy each other’s company. Support workers help make this possible without care tasks always sitting in the background.

Letting someone else care for a loved one isn’t easy. It takes trust to believe that another person can show the same patience, kindness and understanding they do. When that trust grows and the connection is there it can change everything.

That’s why support workers matter so much not just in what they do, but in how they help families breathe a little easier, knowing their loved one is cared for with respect and genuine warmth.

Being a support worker means showing up not just in action, but repeatedly with the same quiet consistency. It’s the kind of role where relationships grow over time, gently, often in the background, as trust builds through familiar routines and small, thoughtful gestures.

It might be helping someone begin their morning with comfort and calm or simply being nearby when words aren’t needed. Over time, there’s a natural understanding, knowing how someone likes their chair adjusted, what music lifts their mood, when to offer encouragement and when to simply sit together. What matters most isn’t always visible.

That’s what it means to be a support worker, not just providing care, but becoming a steady part of someone’s life in a way that helps them feel safe, known, and able to live life on their own terms.

We’re pleased to share a date for the diary.

On 15 October 2026, we’ll be hosting our third Collaboration in Rehabilitation conference, alongside Intospeech and Healing Touch Rehab.

Following the conversations and connections that came out of our conferences in 2024 and 2025, it felt right to come together again. Each year has reinforced how valuable shared learning and open discussion are when supporting people through rehabilitation.

This is a save the date to help with forward planning. More details will follow, but for now, we’re really looking forward to bringing people together again in October.

Some roles are mostly about skills and experience. This one is just as much about who you are.

It’s about turning up with kindness and taking the time to really get to know someone. You become part of their everyday life in a way that feels natural, with moments of laughter, quieter moments too, and with trust that builds.

If you enjoy connecting with people and want work that feels genuinely meaningful, this could be the right place for you.

What happens after a child sustains a brain injury is often where families need the most support.

Once the immediate medical care has passed, many families find themselves facing a series of decisions, appointments and conversations, often while still trying to make sense of what has happened. It can feel like a lot to hold at once.

Through case management, we help families make sense of this stage by bringing some order and continuity to the process. That might involve coordinating professionals, supporting communication, or simply helping families focus on one step at a time. Having someone alongside them early on can ease pressure, reduce uncertainty, and help support develop, in a steadier, more manageable way as needs evolve.

A child’s brain injury rarely affects just one person. It becomes part of everyday life for the whole family.

No two families experience this in the same way. Home environments, routines, responsibilities and pressures all differ, and those differences shape what support needs to look like. What feels manageable for one family may feel overwhelming for another.

In our work, we spend time getting to know families and understanding what life actually looks like for them. Support is then shaped around that reality and adjusted as things change.
When care reflects real life, families are more likely to feel settled and supported, and children have the space they need to move forward in a way that feels right for them.

A support worker role is about more than covering shifts or completing tasks. It’s about showing up consistently, taking the time to understand someone, and supporting them to live their everyday life with confidence.

For the right person, this is work that gives back. You’re building trust, encouraging independence, and becoming part of someone’s routine in a way that genuinely matters.

If you’re looking to grow in a support worker role where care, purpose and people come first, we’d really like to hear from you.

Supporting a child after a serious brain injury is never one-size-fits-all.

Every child presents differently. Needs can change over time, and the right support has to move with them. What helps one child may not be right for another, even when injuries appear similar on paper.

We support children and families by taking time to really understand their world and what matters most to them. Support is shaped around everyday life, with care that listens, adapts and responds as needs change.

When support feels steady and familiar, it brings reassurance, which helps children feel more secure, families feel supported day to day, and progress can happen at a pace that feels right for each child.

January brings a few work birthdays across our team, and with them a reminder of something we value deeply.

Continuity matters. Familiar faces matter. In complex cases, consistency of care makes a real difference for clients, families and the professionals we work alongside.

Seeing people grow with us over time reflects a supportive working environment and a shared commitment to doing things properly. It’s how trust is built, and how care stays consistent.

We’re proud of the people behind the work.
