May we remember and honour those who have served this Remembrance Sunday.

At Lofthouse Surgery we are proud to be a Veteran Friendly accredited practice. This means that as part of the health commitments of the armed forces covenant, we have a dedicated clinician who has a specialist knowledge of military related health conditions and veteran specific health services.

A veteran is somebody who has served in the UK armed forces for at least 1 day.

If you have served in the armed forces please do let us know so that we can make sure you receive the most appropriate and best care and support, if and when you need it.

To find out more, visit www.nhs.uk/veterans

🏠 Whilst we know dementia affects everyone differently, here are six ways that can often make the home more dementia friendly:

✨ Remove mirrors: reflections can sometimes cause confusion or distress
✨Add safety features: think grab rails, non-slip mats, good lighting, and clear walkways to prevent falls
✨Use clear clocks: large clocks showing the time, date, and day can help with orientation and routine
✨Use contrasting colours: make everyday items easier to see (such as a red toilet seat or grab rail)
✨Display photos & familiar items: family photos and keepsakes can bring comfort and may prompt memories
✨Add labels & instructions: simple signs with words or pictures can help with everyday tasks (such as locating things in cupboards)

💙 For more guidance and support in caring for someone with dementia, visit the Carers Leeds Dementia Support page - https://www.carersleeds.org.uk/support-for-carers/dementia-4/

We’d also love to hear from you — share in the comments any tips or ideas that have helped you in your caring role.
