I say no quite a lot.

Not because I want to be difficult
and not because I don’t want to work with someone.

But because not everything that can be done, should be done.

Sometimes it’s the skin.
Sometimes it’s the area.
Sometimes it’s just not the right time.

And sometimes… doing something would actually make things worse.

A lot of patients come in with something they’ve seen online and are convinced it’s right for them.

But it doesn’t always work like that.

What looks good on someone else
isn’t always right for your face, your skin, or your starting point.

And sometimes it’s not about one treatment at all it’s a plan, a course, consistency.

Not everyone is ready for that.

That’s the bit patients don’t always realise.

You’re trusting someone to make that call for you.

Not everyone does. But I will.

The reason?
I’m not interested in a quick yes
if it risks a result you’ll regret later.

The patients who stay with me long term
have nearly always heard me say no at some point.

And they’re usually glad I did 💜

More and more, people are starting to believe that the “best” injectors are the ones they see the most.

The ones with the biggest followings.
The ones flying around the world.
The ones constantly on your screen.

And I understand why.

Because visibility creates familiarity.
And familiarity starts to feel like trust.

But in aesthetics, those two things are not automatically the same.

Being well known does not tell you how someone consults.
It does not tell you how carefully they assess your face.
It does not tell you how they manage complications.
It does not tell you whether they will say no.

Some of the most skilled, careful and experienced practitioners are not the most visible.

They are in clinic.
Working quietly.
Building results slowly.
Putting safety before content.

And those are often the practitioners who will give you the most natural, considered outcomes.

Good aesthetics is not about being seen everywhere.

It is about being truly accountable to every single patient you treat.

People often assume at-home microneedling pens or needling devices are basically the same as professional microneedling.

They are not.

Microneedling isn’t just about moving lots of needles over the skin.

When we carry out a microneedling treatment, we are creating controlled injury, at the right depth, in a safe and sterile way.

Professional devices like SkinPen Precision use sterile, sealed, single-use needle cartridges designed specifically for safe treatment. The device itself is also sealed to prevent the back flow of any blood or bodily fluids which could cause contamination and infection.

Many of the pens available online do not have the same standards around sterility, needle quality, packaging or depth accuracy.

And when you are creating thousands of tiny channels in the skin, that matters.

Not all skin should be needled in the same way.

Needling over active acne, rosacea, melasma or a damaged skin barrier can make things worse rather than better if it is done incorrectly or without proper assessment.

Too much depth can increase the risk of irritation, pigmentation and even scarring.

Too little depth often does very little at all.

And most people have absolutely no idea what depth they should be using, how often they should be using it, what products they should avoid afterwards or whether their skin should even be needled in the first place.

Professional microneedling is not just about having the device.

It is about knowing when to treat, when not to treat and how to do it safely.

A cheap device bought online is absolutely not worth the risks to your health.

People often think aesthetics is very black and white.

That there is a right way and a wrong way.
That there is simply a treatment and a result.
That if something changes over time, it must have been “bad work”.
That if another practitioner says they would not have done something, that automatically means it was wrong.

But Aesthetic Medicine is not that simplistic.

Faces change.
Ageing does not pause.
Tissue changes.
Products integrate.
Preferences differ.

Different does not automatically mean wrong.

In aesthetics, there can sometimes be a culture of either defending everything or criticising everything.

Neither is helpful.

Good practice is about being able to say:

Yes, complications happen.
Yes, results can change over time.
Yes, something could perhaps have been done differently.
And yes, good practitioners will sometimes make different decisions.

I hold myself to a very high clinical standard.

I consult properly.
I document thoroughly.
I review.
I dissolve when needed.
I reflect.
I take responsibility.

And yes, when you care deeply about your standards, being questioned can sting.

But having professional integrity should not be about never being criticised.

It should be about remaining calm enough to ask yourself one thing:

Was the decision appropriate at the time, based on assessment, anatomy and clinical judgement?

If it was, I stand by it.

When you choose a practitioner, you do not want someone who thinks they are always right.

You want someone who thinks carefully, reflects honestly and puts your best interests first.

The best practitioners are not the ones who never question themselves.

They are the ones who care enough to keep reflecting. 💜

The best feedback you could give me is:

“No one noticed.”

Or:

“My friend couldn’t believe it when I told her.”

For me, that’s exactly what I work hard to achieve.
The best results are not the ones where everyone immediately knows you have had filler or tweakments.

They are the ones where people say:

“You look well.”
“You look fresher.”
“You look less tired.”
“Have you done something different with your makeup?”

And then, if you choose to tell them what you have actually had done, they are genuinely surprised.

That is when I know I have got it right.

Treatment should not make you look like somebody else.

It should make you look like you. Just fresher, softer and more confident. 💜

✨Just 2 weeks!✨

These are the early results after using Obagi Nu-Cil BioStim Scalp Serum consistently.

Look at the difference already!

There is less scalp show through, through the front hairline and the hair itself already looks healthier, fuller and stronger.

Hair thinning can affect confidence just as much as skin concerns, which is why I am so interested in treatments and products that support the scalp properly, rather than just masking the problem.

Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp.

Hair growth takes time, so this is not a quick fix.
But when you support the scalp properly and stay consistent, you can start to see subtle changes surprisingly quickly.

Visible improvements can start within a few weeks, but the best results come with continued use.
Clinical studies by Obagi found that fuller, denser looking hair is typically seen around 3 months, with many users not only noticing improved density but healthier looking hair and less hair fall.

I am thrilled for my patient and I cannot wait to see her results improve even more! 💜

When a patient trusts you.

When they use the products you’ve recommended exactly as advised.

When they stay consistent.

This is what can happen.

Just 6 weeks on a bespoke Obagi protocol and look at the difference already.

The pigmentation is lighter, the darker patches have softened so much and the whole complexion looks clearer, brighter and more even.

Great skin results do not come from one treatment, one facial or one miracle product.

They come from the right plan, the right products and consistency at home.

This is why I will always say skin is where the real transformation happens.

One of the biggest mistakes I see in aesthetics is people trying to fix what are essentially problems created by ageing skin, with injectables.

It is also one of the main reasons you see puffy, over treated faces.

If your skin is dehydrated, crepey, pigmented, dull or sun damaged, more injectables are not the answer.

When you look in the mirror, your skin is what you see first.

And if the skin itself is not healthy, your injectable results will never look as fresh, smooth or natural as they should.

From our mid-20s, collagen production starts to slow down by around 1% each year.

We also produce less elastin and hyaluronic acid. Skin cell turnover slows, hydration drops, sun damage starts to become more visible and the skin becomes thinner and less able to repair itself.

Then around menopause, falling oestrogen levels can accelerate that process even more.
Women can lose up to 30% of their collagen in the first five years after menopause, which is why skin can suddenly start to feel thinner, drier, looser and less resilient.

And it is why you cannot just keep adding more and more injectable treatments and expect that you will look magically refreshed.

If skin quality is poor, you are unlikely to be thrilled with your results no matter what has been done underneath.

At some point, you have to invest in the skin itself.

Healthy skin reflects light better.
Healthy skin holds hydration better.
Healthy skin makes every treatment result look better.

That is why I will always talk to you about your skin before I talk to you about injectables. 💜

Because sometimes the best thing you can do for your face is not another injectable treatment.

It is improving the skin that sits over the top of it.

There were no bells and whistles when I left the NHS in 2018.
No posts from me about that last day in my NHS nursing role and excitement for the future.

I didn’t leave because my aesthetics business was thriving.
I left because I had to.

I was bullied out of a career I had dedicated over 20 years to.

By women.
Women who should have known better.

Women who belittled, excluded, undermined and chipped away at my confidence.

I won my grievances and walked away.
The NHS trust wrote to me asking me to come back.
They offered training, support and opportunities into new roles.

But by then, I knew I could not stay somewhere that had made me feel so small.

And I built something from nothing.

My first week as a full time, self employed business owner I didn’t have one single booked appointment.

I worked through fear.
Through self doubt.
Through all the days I wondered if I had made the wrong decision.

But I kept going.

And now I have a business I built myself.
A business that survived the pandemic.
Patients who trust me.
A reputation I am proud of.
And a life that no longer depends on people who wanted me to feel less than.

That is why I have no tolerance for bullying, unkindness, exclusion or cruel behaviour.

Because I know exactly what it feels like to be on the receiving end of it.

There is so much noise in aesthetics now.

So many trends.
So much pressure to have more done, buy more products and chase whatever treatment everybody is talking about that week.

But what I want my patients to know is simple:

I will always be honest with you.
Your safety will always come first.
And I will always recommend what I genuinely think is right for you.

Not what is most profitable.
Not what everybody else is doing.
And not what will give the biggest reaction on social media.

Because I do not think good aesthetics should feel like a sales pitch.

If I do not think something is right for you, I will tell you.
And I would always rather lose a booking than do something I do not believe in.

You do not need a famous injector.
You need a skilled injector.

And the two are not always the same. 💜

✨I call this an energy serum for the skin.

As we age, our skin cells do not work as efficiently as they used to. They become slower to repair, slower to renew and slower to maintain brightness, firmness and hydration.

That is one of the reasons skin can start to look duller, more uneven, less firm and generally more tired over time.

The new Obagi NU-GEN Cellular Renewal Serum is designed to target exactly that.

It supports NAD+ levels in the skin. NAD+ is essentially the fuel source inside our skin cells and it naturally declines with age.

When those levels drop, the skin has less energy to repair and renew itself.

NU-GEN combines NAD+, NMN and niacinamide to help support the skin’s repair and energy systems, helping improve things like dullness, dehydration, uneven tone, redness, fine lines, texture and skin resilience.

What I like about it is that it is not just working on the surface. It is designed to support how the skin functions at a cellular level, which is why it works so well for anybody wanting brighter, healthier, stronger-looking skin.

An incredible serum for anybody concerned about tired, ageing skin.

Obagi does it again!!! 💙

For app users, I currently have 10% off plus a complimentary travel size worth £70 🤍

Treating the lips and area around the mouth is one of the trickiest areas in aesthetics.

It’s very easy for the area to look overfilled.
It’s very easy to make the area look too smooth.
And it’s very easy to lose the natural shape of the mouth.

The aim should never be to completely erase every line or make somebody look obviously ‘done’.

Especially in smaller lips, subtle is usually the right approach.

A little bit of filler in the right place can make such a difference without making the lips look overfilled or unnatural.

This is an area where it’s important not to rush.

Trying to do too much in one appointment can make the mouth look heavy quite quickly.

The best results are usually built slowly, over a couple of appointments, with the lips and surrounding area still looking soft, natural and like they belong to the face.

For the lips and the area around them, less really is more.

The Claire Lavery Aesthetics Story

Claire Lavery Aesthetics was founded in 2016 with a strong focus on achieving the most natural but effective results. For me the psychology of aesthetics has always been fascinating, the fact that I can give confidence to my patients is the reason I do what I do!

Listening to someone tell me they have been conscious of a particular feature for most of their life and that when they have had their treatment with me they walk out feeling wonderful is such a privilege.

I am a Registered Nurse and Independent Nurse Prescriber with over 20 years clinical experience, initially trained in Paediatrics I went on to become a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse and Domestic Violence lead Health Visitor.

In 2018 I became full time in aesthetics.
