🚨 Benedict’s Law is coming this September – is your school ready?

From September 2026, the proposed Benedict’s Law will significantly strengthen how schools manage and respond to allergies.

This is a positive step forward - but it also brings clear expectations.

Schools will need to demonstrate:
✔ Effective allergy management policies
✔ Trained and confident staff
✔ Emergency response readiness (including auto-injectors)
✔ Clear communication with parents and carers
✔ Suitable risk assessments and control measures

Are you aware of Benedicts law ?

The department for education has launched the statutory consultation on supporting children with medical conditions and allergy. It delivers the core elements of Benedicts law and requires all schools to have, spare allergy pens (Auto Injectors) allergy training for staff, clear allergy policies and individual health care plans.

Benedicts law is named in memory of Benedict Blythe who died from anaphylaxis in December 2021.

This is a really important step for allergy safety within schools and we support this whole heartedly. Every child deserves to feel safe at school and with proper training and access to emergency treatment this should make a huge difference.

Following the death of Benedict Blythe, his family began a determined campaign through the Benedict Blythe Foundation to make sure no other child would be left unsafe at school because of unclear or inconsistent allergy standards.

That campaign has led to this statutory consultation on Supporting Children with Medical Conditions and Allergy, which delivers the core elements of Benedict’s Law — spare allergy devices in schools, improved allergy training for staff, clear allergy policies, and stronger Individual Healthcare Plans.

As members of the National Allergy Strategy Group, we are proud to have supported the development of this guidance. Improving safety in education settings is a core part of the National Allergy Strategy, and this is a significant step forward.

We congratulate the Benedict Blythe Foundation and Benedict’s family on reaching this milestone, and encourage schools, families and professionals to engage with the consultation.
