Ian Sanders, Orthotist and a member of our 3D Print Clinical Support team, was recently approached by one of the Neuro Rehabilitation Physiotherapists with whom he works, whilst at his Orthotic clinic at The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust and Charity in Liverpool.

She had an unusual request! She wanted to know if Crispin could use their 3D printing technology to manufacture a protective helmet for one of their teddy bears which are to be used by the neuro rehab team for educational purposes, specifically for the children and families of patients who are undergoing rehabilitation at the Lipton Ward or the Complex Rehabilitation Unit (CRU) in the Sid Watkins Building.

The purpose of this special teddy bear is to demonstrate the importance of wearing a helmet for patients who have experienced a brain injury and have undergone a Craniectomy, which involves the removal of a part of the skull to relieve pressure on the brain. These patients require a helmet to protect the vulnerable area where the craniectomy was performed. Ian scanned the bear and the helmet was manufactured using our standard process and even featured cut-outs to accommodate the bear's ears!

In a race where only 15 participants over the age of 60 took on the challenge, Tracey secured the 7th position! Out of 1000 participants in total, she claimed the 631st spot, showcasing her determination and spirit.

It’s National Foot Drop Awareness Day! 🦶✨

Foot drop describes the inability to lift the front part of the foot due to muscular weakness or paralysis. It can cause the foot to drag along the ground and is a sign of an underlying problem rather than a condition itself.

Foot drop can be caused by nerve injury, conditions that weaken the muscles such as muscular dystrophy, and brain/spinal cord disorders such as stroke.

On this day we are thrilled that we have helped enhance the mobility of many patients suffering from foot drop with our range of lightweight ankle foot orthoses (AFOs), which combines aesthetic and dynamic properties without functional compromise.
