Some of you may be interested in this one as I had several patients asking for KEYHOLE lumbar discectomy as opposed to microdiscetomy.

There is a paper in one of the top spinal journals published this week which in essence suggests NO DIFFERENCE in long term results between the two techniques.

This lack of advantage of the largely promoted key-hole is not surprising in my view. This method may still lead to inadequate decompression while posing higher risk of damage to the nerve.

For those interested in more than this nitty-gritty follow the link below.

nimally invasive spine surgeries, PTED and MED, are now widely used for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). It is still a controversial issue to choose the proper surgical approach. Methods. In this single-center, open-label, randomized controlled trial, patients were included if they had...

I am hearing from many of my patients with moderate or low grade back pain: they are not sure where to start with their physical activities during lock-down. The abundance of information seems to be overwhelming.
The link below may prove inspiring to some and I would suggest it as a starting point. It may still not be your cup of tea. For some it may not be the way forward...
The bottom line is: at the beginning doing 'something' is nearly always better than doing nothing!
I encourage those who have not started yet - do exercises while stuck at home. Not once a week. Several times a day! Make a conscious ... No... Not an 'effort' (!)... Make it FUN as much as possible. Make it ROUTINE. Make your NEW HABIT for your own good! And keep it on after we are freed!
YOU are the KEY to feeling and getting better!

This week, teachers& non teaching staff, across the country will go into schools where they will interact with children of NHS staff who are highly exposed to COVID-19. They will not be given face masks or protective clothing. Some may not even be given hand gel. They won't get free coffee, half price pizza or special shopping hours. They won’t get discounted shopping or free taxi rides to and from work .... they won’t get anything. They will perform their jobs in ways they have never done before, with children of all ages (not just their own classes) that they’ve never worked with before, and they will do it with a smile on their faces so that the children in their care don't know how scared they are.
Thank you to all Teachers, Teaching Assistants and anyone else heading into a school this week to keep it running so that our NHS and carers can take care of the sick and the vulnerable, our shops can stay open and deliveries can continue. You too are heroes!
