All Aboard the Gledhow Jolly Journey: A New Immersive Steam Train Experience Launches

Leeds, West Yorkshire – A unique and nostalgic experience has arrived at Gledhow, as we proudly announce the launch of the Gledhow Jolly Journey – an immersive, sensory steam train experience designed to transport residents, families, and visitors back to the golden age of rail travel.

One of Gledhow’s ground floor lounges has been beautifully transformed into a vintage steam train carriage, offering guests the chance to “travel” on scenic journeys across the UK. Through carefully curated sights, sounds, and sensory elements, the Gledhow Jolly Journey captures the magic and romance of a bygone era, creating a truly engaging and meaningful experience for all who step aboard.

The stunning carriage design has been expertly created by Little Islands, whose creative vision has brought authenticity and charm to the space, ensuring an immersive and visually captivating experience.

This special project has also been made possible thanks to the generosity and support of our new friends at the Vintage Carriage Trust, Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway, and the Wensleydale Railway. Their contributions of authentic items and inspiration have helped bring this vision to life in a way that is both immersive and historically rich.

The Gledhow Jolly Journey is completely free to enjoy and open to all residents, their families, and visitors. It has been thoughtfully designed to spark memories, encourage conversation, and provide comfort through familiar sights and sounds—particularly for those who remember the golden era of steam travel.

“We hope this space brings joy, connection, and a sense of adventure to everyone who visits,” said a spokesperson for Gledhow. “It’s more than just a room—it’s a journey through time.”

All are welcome to step aboard and experience the magic for themselves.

When you need a little calm amongst the chaos, please feel free to use our new Reflection Space located on the ground floor to the left of Reception.

This room has been designed with everyone in mind. The calming setting is there for all to use. If you need to take 5 / 10 minutes away for yourself please feel free.
