Today marks the first day of
Mole-Vember
As part of a podiatry examination we would look and examine closely and lesion that is suspicious on your lower limb . We look for melonomas , basal cell carcinomas and many other types of lesions like Bowens disease , psoriasis and lots of dermatological disorders.
This month we are going to explore why checking your skin is so important, and what you should be looking out for.

For the first piece of Mole-Vember, we are asking you all to check your skin, or have someone check it for you. To write down about your moles, you can use one of our mole monitoring cards if you have one!

Keeping in mind the ABCDE model we always talk about 🦋 -

A - Asymmetry, normal benign moles should be symmetrical in shape. If cut in half they would look the same on both sides.

B - Border, moles should have an even, solid border. Blurred or notched borders signify an abnormality and should be checked

C - Colour, healthy moles are one uniform colour throughout. More than one colour is something to look out for.

D - Diameter, healthy moles are 6mm or below, use a ruler or one of our mole monitoring cards to keep an eye on the size of moles.

E - Evolution, any changes in a mole of the above, or new sensations should always be checked out by a doctor

At the end of Mole-Vember, we will check our skin again to see if there has been any changes. Checking your skin once a month is so important as it can lead you to discover moles that you have never seen, or changes that were not present before
We always will check and record our findings and refer forward to specialist experts if we deem necessary.
