Please, please fill in our survey if you are hEDS/HSD with shoulder symptoms.
• It will help us understand how to support people with shoulder symptoms that have hEDS/HSD (and similar diagnoses) better
• It doesn’t matter if people have used or know what DEFO is because we want to hear from everyone with shoulder symptoms that have been diagnosed with hEDS/HSD or a similar diagnosis.
• People need to be adults 18 or over living in the UK.
• There is an option to click ‘finish later’ to stop during the survey and then come back to it. If you don’t click finish later then you will not have a way to come back to your answers later on. Below is the link and recruitment flyer in picture with QR code.

EDS UK Community Champion Awards!

2023 has brought more nominations for Community Champions within the EDS and HSD community. In this issue we highlight our most recent recipient who has both gone above and beyond in either raising awareness, promoting and disseminating education on the syndromes, supporting people with EDS or other significant contributions such as adaptations and inclusivity. The awards also celebrate innovative products which make a difference to the lives of people with EDS or HSD.

Congratulations to Anna at Physiocure on being recognised as an EDS UK Community Champion! The award was presented to Anna by Lisa, our West Yorkshire volunteer along with Sally, a Leeds member who was one of the people who nominated Anna for the award.

Anna completed her BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy at the University of Liverpool and became a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1997. Her specialist areas are the shoulder, spinal care, hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. She become involved with HSD and hEDS after suffering from a poorly understood illness herself during pregnancy. This gave her nine months of being, and feeling, incredibly isolated.

Many of the HSD and hEDS community have these issues too. Invisible illness can lead to much more than physical symptoms and the mental strain can take its toll. Supporting such individuals has made Anna strive to understand and gain knowledge of HSD and hEDS. It also helps that her husband has HSD and some of her family!

‘Anna at Physiocure is passionate about the care of her clients- especially those with EDS. She is kind, caring, compassionate, and dedicated. She has helped me so much, encouraging me to try compression support garments, and devising exercise plans to help me - not a photocopy of generic exercises. The exercises are built into my daily routine and have enabled me to function more independently and with less pain. I visit about once a month for a mixture of massage, manipulation, and acupuncture. Without Anna, I don't know where I'd be physically or mentally..’ Sally, Leeds Member
