“Grief doesn’t follow a timeline.”

Grief doesn’t come with a schedule or a set of rules.
Some days feel manageable, others can feel just as heavy as day one—and that’s completely normal.

At J. A. Kelly Independent Funeral Directors, we’re here for you not just in the days of arranging a funeral, but in the quiet moments that follow too.

If today feels a little harder, please be kind to yourself 🤍

Let’s reintroduce ourselves

Jack Aiden Kelly - Dip.FAA, Dip.FD

I am one of the directors of J. A. Kelly Independent Funeral Directors, I am 28 years old, a husband and (newly) dad (again) to Ada, Albert and Arthur.

I have been part of the funeral industry since I was 17 years old. I have worked for other funeral homes since the beginning of my career and still am called upon to assist other funeral directors regularly.

I have always been very passionate about my vocation and am privileged to be able to help families at what is some of their darkest times.

I am a fully qualified funeral director (which other funeral directors may not be as it is not a statutory regulation) holding both my Diplomas in Funeral Arranging and Funeral Directing through the National Association of Funeral Directors.

I was born and raised in LS14 and as a local lad, since starting in the industry it has been my dream to be able to serve and give back to the community around me.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy my rugby league and still play for my local amateur club Seacroft Sharks, and we also enjoy our family time together doing whatever we can to get out and about usually to wherever the kids have decided to go

It is the privilege of my life to be able to help people who are in need and I thank all families who trust me to look after them and their loved ones!

Let’s reintroduce ourselves.

Martin Corkett - DipFD, CertFAA, B.I.E. Assoc, MIFDC.

I am one of the directors of J. A. Kelly Independent Funeral Directors alongside my son-in-law, Jack. I am a husband, dad and grandad, and have dedicated my entire working life to serving others within our local community.

I first began my career in the 1980s working as an undertaker for two well-known Leeds funeral firms. Those early years taught me the importance of dignity, attention to detail and, most importantly, compassion. Supporting families at their most difficult times has always been something I have felt deeply privileged to do.

Following this, I spent 30 years serving with West Yorkshire Fire Service. During that time the fire service strengthened my resilience, leadership and unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of others.

After retiring from the fire service pre covid, I returned to the funeral industry doing casual work with Jack — My passion for the industry immediately came back which led to the opening of J. A. Kelly Independent Funeral Directors in Cross Gates.

I hold my Diploma in Funeral Directing (DipFD), a Certificate in Funeral Arranging and Administration (CertFAA), and I am an Associate of the British Institute of Embalmers (B.I.E.Assoc). I am also a member of the Independent Funeral Directors College and SAIF – The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors. These qualifications reflect my commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards and ensuring every family receives the care they deserve.

Having lived and worked in this community for many decades, it means a great deal to me and its an honour to support families through some of life’s most difficult days, and I am truly grateful to everyone who places their trust in us.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Easter 🐣 ✝️⛪️

💜Testicular Cancer Awareness Month💜

April is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness of a disease that most commonly affects young men, typically between the ages of 15 and 45.

While this isn’t always an easy topic to talk about, it truly can save lives.

Testicular cancer is highly treatable when caught early. Knowing the signs and checking regularly is key. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s always best to get it checked — no hesitation, no embarrassment.

🔹 Changes in size, shape, or firmness
🔹 A lump or swelling
🔹 A dull ache or heaviness

This month is about encouraging men to look after themselves, speak up, and support one another. It’s also about remembering those families who have been affected and continuing to raise awareness in our community.

💙 Check yourself. Talk about it. Look out for each other.

We are incredibly proud to share that J. A. Kelly Independent Funeral Directors are now sponsoring our local rugby team 🏉

This one feels especially meaningful, as I not only support the team through our business, but also have the privilege of playing for them myself. It’s a real honour to represent both the teams and our family business side by side.

Supporting our community has always been at the heart of what we do, and being part of a team that brings people together, shows such dedication, and represents true local spirit means a great deal to us.

Grassroots sport plays such an important role in bringing families, friends and communities together, and we’re delighted to be a small part of that journey.

We wish the team every success this season and look forward to what’s ahead!

Thank you for allowing us to be part of something so special 💙

Today marks Purple Day, a global event dedicated to raising awareness of epilepsy and supporting those affected by it.

Epilepsy is a condition that impacts millions of people worldwide, yet it is often misunderstood. By wearing purple and sharing knowledge, we can help break down stigma and encourage understanding within our communities.

At J. A. Kelly Independent Funeral Directors, we see every day how important compassion, awareness, and support are for families facing all kinds of challenges. Today is a reminder of the importance of kindness, patience, and looking out for one another.

💜 Whether it’s learning something new, supporting a loved one, or simply spreading awareness — every small action makes a difference.

Today we celebrate the incredible love, strength and kindness of all mums and mother figures. 💐

For many, Mother’s Day is filled with hugs, laughter and special moments with family. But we know that for many others, today can bring a quiet ache as we remember a mum who is no longer with us.

A mother’s love never truly leaves us. It lives on in the memories we hold close, the lessons she taught us and the love she gave so freely.

Today we are thinking of everyone in our community — those celebrating, those remembering, and those who may find today a little difficult.

Because a mother’s love is forever, and the memories of her stay in our hearts always🩷

🌸 A Beautiful Window for Mother’s Day 🌸

We would like to say a big thank you to the very talented Jenny for once again creating a beautiful hand-painted window display for us.

This month we’re dedicating this beautiful artwork to Mother’s Day. It’s a gentle reminder of the love, warmth and memories we hold for our mums – whether they are with us or remembered with love.

Mother’s Day can be a special but sometimes emotional time for many families, and we hope this little display brings a smile to those passing by.

If you’re in the Crossgates area, please do take a moment to have a look as you pass.

Thank you again Jenny for sharing your creativity with our community – we truly appreciate it. 🌷
