I had a great time at Gayle Johnson's Wordspill Works Workshop in York yesterday.

A fabulous day with a lovely group of ladies. Inspiring one another whilst we had fun working through the various writing activities that Gayle had planned for us to help in focusing and refining our purpose.

I can highly recommend these days and can't wait for the next one. It was so nurturing and yummy, not just the delicious cakes and snacks - Gayle looked after us well, but the yummy feeling you get when you fill up on soul food.

Summer had arrived last week with fabulous weather … where did that go?

Anyhow, I always feel the ability to unplug is somehow easier in summer. The warmer weather reminding me of holidays and a natural relaxation happening.

Even now, 14 years of doing and sharing Sophrology, I sometimes have to remind myself that we can get this feeling any time of the year, by plugging into the wonderful apparatus called the mind-body connection.

By using this two-way communication method, we can bring about a state of relaxation and a feeling that we have indeed unplugged, the feeling we might get from being on holiday.

Sophrology is multifaceted and has a multi functionality approach to wellbeing, basically being able bring about states that we wish to feel. It can be described as sitting at the intersection of yoga and mindfulness - less physically demanding than yoga and more dynamic than mindfulness, but in essence it is much more.

I had a great time exhibiting at the Northallerton Wellbeing Festival recently talking about Sophrology and the effectiveness on wellbeing.

I met up with some friends and met some lovely new exhibitors too and found a great Sound Bath musician to come along to my next Being Me retreat as part of the wellbeing programme of events I offer.

Northallerton is such a lovely market town too. It reminded me of home a little bit, Otley, where I live, minus Bettys.

It was one of those days were everything was meant to be 😊

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you are enjoying the long Easter weekend. I am having a lovely weekend. My birthday fell on Good Friday, so had the day off which was lovely, despite having a cold. I have been mixing activities with rest to help me recover.

I hope you have found time to switch off, find balance and feel refreshed for the week ahead.

If not we have the free Sophrology taster session tomorrow evening on zoom at 7pm to 8pm.

Sophrology is a simple way of relaxing the body and calming the mind, much like we would find if we did yoga and meditation. It's beauty is that it doesn't take much time, just regular practice, to start to feel and see the benefits:

Hello dear friends, I hope you are well and in good spirits. I can certainly feel spring just around the corner. I have my free taster session tonight, on zoom at 7pm to 8pm.

Tonight's session we will focus on confidence. I know for me my levels of confidence can still fluctuate somewhat depending on the situation. Although through my Sophrology practice I am able to relay on it more being there when I need it by tapping into some of the techniques that we use.

This is a quote that has hung around me, like my shadow, for a while now.

The quote is from a song called 'Happiness Runs' by Donovan from the 60's.

For me they point to many things that prevent us from being in the present moment and claiming the true joy and happiness that exists there.

'You can have everything if you let yourself be' for me relates to that inner voice, the narrative that accompanies our journey through life, the voice that was created in our formative years and that can be our closest friend or our worst enemy.

You might associate with the quote in a different way such as 'getting out of your own way' - affectively the inner voice leaving yourself alone, stopping self-sabotaging tendencies etc.

So how do we do that? How do we allow ourselves just to simply be and enjoy life?

I don't think there is one simple answer and it all depends on where we are now, or rather where our consciousness is in terms of it's evolution, but one thing for sure is that allowing ourselves to simply be, starts with awareness.

When we develop our awareness, we get a much better picture of that internal narrative and the effects of that on our system as a whole.

Having a daily practice of meditation and practicing mindfulness during the day helps to develop our awareness so that we can start to catch ourselves when we listen to the voice in our heads too much.

Putting your meditation practice together with body awareness, can really jump start that change of how you relate to the inner voice and subsequently create space from it, so that you can access the peace and harmony that exists within.

Sophrology helps to develop that with it's 3 key principles: body awareness, positive action (helping to balance the often dominant negative mind bias), and objective reality (seeing things as they really are without judgement - the mindfulness piece.)

In a way it is similar to practising yoga mindfully or going for a mindful walk, it is a dynamic practice that although takes effort, can feel somewhat effortless.

Whether you would like to improve your own mental health, or utilise Sophrology to help your clients, then Sophrology might be worth a try.

There are lots of opportunities to try Sophrology, whether it is with myself, another Sophrologist or with The Sophrology Academy, the only Sophrology school here in the UK.

'What is Sophrology?' is a question I get asked most days. If I was in France or one of the other European countries where Sophrology is really popular, I wouldn't get asked as much. It is used extensively in healthcare, business, schools, sports and the arts.

So why is it so popular? For me it is the ease and accessibility of the practice. Pretty much anyone can do it and benefit from it. It requires very little time each day to start seeing benefits, and becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy - the better you feel, the more you want to do it. So what is Sophrology?

Sophrology is a mind-body integration technique that helps to restore balance, harmony and wellbeing. Sophro-training consists of simple exercises using dynamic relaxation, breathing, guided imagery and mindfulness, helping to create new positive neural pathways in the mind-body. It is used for helping to restore health, performance and confidence, and bring overall wellbeing benefits.

It is used by individuals to:

✨ improve feelings of wellbeing,

✨ increase resilience,

✨ help treat or improve therapeutic conditions such as insomnia, anxiety,

✨ improve overall confidence and prepare for future events,

✨ and restore balance, serenity and harmony.

And for teams and organisations it is used as both a stress reliever, performance enhancer, team cohesiveness, and acts as the 'glue' that brings people together - a unifying force that acts as a solid foundation in which to move forwards together.

On the first Tuesday of the month I offer the opportunity to try Sophrology for FREE. The sessions are run on zoom at 7pm to 8pm.

Happy New Year everyone!

I believe this is my first post of the year.

I hope you are all having a wonderful start to it.

I have my monthly FREE Sophrology Discovery session tomorrow evening on zoom, 7pm to 8pm which you are welcome to join if you are free.

This month's session will be focused on developing our beginners mind capacity.

Often at this time of the year our focus can be on goals and intentions which is great and incredibly useful. However, all the 'future focus' that that entails, can bring overwhelm in its wake.

Developing a beginners mind, is the dropping of our expectations and preconceived ideas we might have about something. It helps us to develop our mindfulness capacity and presence, transforming our experiences, opening up our capacity for creativity and worrying less, which means less anxiety.

If you haven't tried Sophrology and are a bit intrigued, then tomorrow night's session could be a perfect opportunity. Just drop me a message to receive the link.
